This is a part-time, hourly position.OVERVIEWThe Grade School Math Tutor works together with the Educational Support Program at the San Francisco Waldorf Grade School in small groups of Grades 4 – 8 to solidify their math skills.Waldorf Education is the fastest growing independent school movement in the world. Waldorf education inspires life-long learning in students and enables them to fully develop their unique capacities.The San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) was founded in 1979 and serves more than 450 students across a parent-child program, a nursery program, kindergarten, and the first through twelfth grades. The grade school campus is in the Pacific Heights neighborhood and is easily accessible via Muni lines.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working with middle-school students in an academic environment.Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferably in mathExperience working with children who may find math challengingFlexibility in your schedule and willingness to adapt to new circumstances.Patience, compassion, and empathy in dealing with students.Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly with relevant examplesExcellent organization and time management skillsSpecialized math training just as in Making Math RealWaldorf teacher certification would be idealEXPECTATIONS REGARDING ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND PROFESSIONALISMResponsiveness with co-workers (e.g., return phone calls, respond to emails and texts promptly)Excellent time-management and organizationExcellent record-keepingPunctualityProfessionalismCourtesyDiscretion and confidentialityCompensation & Benefits:$68 per hour.This is a part-time hourly position with an expected commitment of no more than 6 hours per week of teaching time and meetings. The schedule will be one period for each grade level, totaling 5 periods (hours).This position carries no benefits other than those available through the San Francisco City Ordinances.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentBe able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and coldRegularly sitting or standing 4-8 hoursFLSA Classification : Not exempt from overtime; hourlyReports to : Grade School ChairHired by:
