Position Focus:

The Director of Data Services & Analytics is a member of the Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) team, responsible for overseeing and providing in-depth data analytics, ad hoc revenue and constituent reporting, data downloads, complex query selections, and interactive revenue and constituent data visualizations. The Director serves as a key resource for data integrity and integration projects and assists in the development of processes for and maintenance of constituent data in Yale University’s Blackbaud content management system of record (Hopper). The Director reports to the Executive Director for Advancement Services and is an integral part of the fundraising efforts at the School and within the AED team.

This is an opportunity to lead a critical area of engagement for a top law school with a large, active alumni base and a strong tradition of philanthropy.

The Director:

Oversees and implements best practices for the management, use, and governance of Hopper.

Supports AED through complex reporting and analysis of fundraising results and alumni activities.

Extracts revenue and constituent data including standard fundraising reports and analyses.

Assesses, recommends, and implements strategy for managing all AED data needs in Hopper.

Develops and implements a strategy and plan to maximize the effective use and integration of Hopper, Salesforce, and The Courtyard.

Develops and maintains a process manual for all data management and reporting within AED.

Develops business intelligence reports and dashboards using data visualization.

Prepares presentations for school administrators, volunteers, and senior AED leaders.

Develops and implements processes for ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

In partnership with Executive Director, develops personal annual performance goals.

Manages and mentors one business analyst.

Develops and implements a plan for training all AED staff in the use of Hopper.

Serves as a liaison to Yale Law School and Yale University IT offices.

Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, strategic, and creative problem-solver with a demonstrated track record of building/supporting a data-driven fundraising culture.

Essential Duties:

Develops the initial project charter and clarification of the project scope.

Works with respective process owners to prepare the associated business case.

Conducts thorough business case and external customer value analysis.

Communicates compelling and concise analysis to enable business owners to make informed decisions.

Gathers, compiles, and produces relevant business analytics on departmental performances.

Develops and delivers quality analysis, reporting, and presentation materials.

Responsible for requirements prioritization and solution risk analysis.

Fully integrates baseline and metrics tracking into initiative planning.

Designs, plans, communicates, and executes the departmental readiness plan.

Oversees, develops, facilitates, and delivers training plans.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in business, technology or related field and six years of related work experience in analysis of business needs and development of related business systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

Ability to work in a team-based environment and communicate with technical and non-technical staff.

Expert-level experience in developing reports and complex queries for financial reconciliation.

Excellent presentation and organizational skills.

Strong computer software skills including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases.

Excellent analytic skills to ensure data-driven results.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Proven experience in a complex, matrixed university setting working with alumni and donors.
