The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

Reporting to the Director, Talent Acquisition and Business Support, the Manager, HR Business Support will lead and manage the HR Business Support Group including providing advice and consultation to managers and Human Resources staff in employee relations, strategic workforce planning, and employee communications; interpreting Metra policies; and supporting activities that promote diversity awareness and employee productivity.

Primary Duties:

Assign, review, and evaluate staff providing HR business support to managers in the areas of employee relations, workforce planning, and policy interpretation.

Provide guidance and coaching on discipline, performance, conflict resolution, and terminations.

Participate in talent retention efforts.

Work with managers to drive an inclusive and diverse culture that creates and maintains a productive work environment and enhances the employee experience.

Resolve escalated complex employee relations issues conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations.

Create and update metrics to measure retention and turnover; assess, interpret, and report data.

Manage the New Hire Orientation process and the Exit Interview process.

Approve time off, coordinate staff schedules, and ensure compliance with departmental and company policies.

Make recommendations regarding hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary procedures.

Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.

Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or in lieu of degree, four years of human resources experience.

Minimum of six years of HR Business Partner or similar experience.

Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Considerable knowledge of full lifecycle recruiting components.

Good knowledge of federal and state employment laws.

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Good presentation skills.

Good collaborative and persuasive skills.

Proficient using Microsoft Office and HRIS database systems.

Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential information.

Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds.

Must be willing to travel within Metra’s 6-county region.

Must be available to work flexible hours.
