The Role
The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead a dynamic team of five, guiding and empowering them to elevate the Chamber’s marketing and communications efforts. This role is integral in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the marketing team while driving strategic initiatives that boost member engagement and attract new members.
As the Director, you will collaborate closely with internal departments across business, policy, economic development, and leadership program initiatives, as well as with external stakeholders, to craft and execute comprehensive content and digital strategies that strengthen the Chamber’s brand. Your efforts will directly support member recruitment, retention, and overall value by delivering impactful marketing and communications materials that resonate with current and prospective members.
In this role, you will oversee the Chamber’s owned and earned media, website, social media channels, and all associated marketing and communications outputs. You will also provide strategic communications support for the executive team, including media engagements, speaking opportunities, and events, ensuring alignment with the Chamber’s key priorities and messaging. Additionally, you will play a critical role in shaping the Chamber’s response to policy debates, economic trends, and election-related issues, working closely with Chamber leadership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and Implement Strategy:
Lead the creation and execution of an annual strategic marketing and communications plan in collaboration with the VP of Sales & Investor Strategy, senior leadership, and the marketing and events teams. Ensure that membership growth and revenue generation remain top priorities.
Oversee Major Marketing Initiatives:
Manage and execute key marketing projects, including the launch of a new website, reimagining email marketing initiatives, optimizing marketing operational tools, establishing a robust social media strategy, and developing a comprehensive member engagement plan.
Manage Marketing Materials:
Oversee the creation and distribution of all marketing and communications materials, including newsletters, event collateral, web content, membership materials, and social media content. Ensure the team consistently meets deadlines and delivers high-quality work that aligns with the Chamber's strategic goals.
Team Leadership and Development:
Mentor and empower the communications and marketing team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Use metrics to assess team performance, ensure continuous improvement, and maintain a focus on achieving membership and revenue goals.
Process Development and Quality Control:
Establish and refine effective processes and procedures within the marketing team to ensure consistent quality control. Ensure that all marketing and communications materials meet the highest standards and align with the Chamber’s brand.
Lead Unique Marketing Initiatives:
Take a lead role in developing innovative marketing and communications campaigns, including multimedia production, annual reports, speech writing, and market research. Ensure these initiatives align with the Chamber’s strategic objectives and drive member engagement.
Brand Management:
Protect and enhance the Chamber’s brand by ensuring the correct usage of names, logos, graphic standards, and images across all communication materials, signage, and displays.
Content Strategy and Analysis:
Analyze statistical reports and participate in events where these reports are unveiled. Use insights to inform content strategies and communications efforts targeted at Chamber investors.
Engage with Stakeholders:
Attend networking events and represent the Chamber in speaking engagements with business leaders, workforce development professionals, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Gather insights on trends and policies that impact the business community.
Media Relations:
Collaborate with the VP of Sales & Investor Strategy, and outside consultants when appropriate, to develop and oversee a comprehensive media relations strategy. Respond to media inquiries, prepare Chamber representatives for interviews, and craft press advisories, releases, and proactive pitches as needed.
Advocate on Key Issues:
Create and present communications on issues impacting members and communities, including economic development, policy, and legislation. Position the Chamber as a leading voice in shaping local and state government policies in Colorado.
High Impact Area Support:
Provide timely, high-quality communications during major initiatives including Colorado’s Legislative Session, economic development project announcements, or high-priority items, including: emails, newsletters, and social media updates. Work closely with the leadership team to ensure members are informed and engaged.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Work with the teams to align communications strategies and meet their specific marketing and communications needs.
Leverage Technology:
Collaborate with consultants, and third-party vendors to innovate and customize Chamber communications through effective use of technology.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of the Chamber.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills:
Initiative and Relationship-Building:
Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong track record of taking initiative. Proven success in developing and nurturing relationships with key organizational decision-makers.
Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, establish and maintain relationships, and interact confidently with high-level business and community leaders. Must excel in writing, editing, and proofreading.
Team Leadership and Development:
Proven experience in successfully leading, developing, and motivating internal teams. Ability to build and maintain strong external business and community relationships.
Strategic Marketing and Communications:
Expertise in strategic marketing and communications, including messaging, media relations, and content development. Ability to craft compelling narratives that drive engagement and support organizational goals. Experience in copywriting.
Creativity and Innovation:
Strong creative skills with a passion for developing innovative marketing and communications strategies. Experience with art direction, graphic design, branding, and photography is essential.
Technical Proficiency:
Advanced understanding of website development, strong digital marketing acumen, able to leverage electronic communication methods, social media strategies, and printing processes. Ability to leverage these tools to enhance brand visibility and engagement. Highly proficient working within Adobe Suite.
Attention to Detail and Project Management:
Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and tight deadlines. Strong organizational skills to ensure quality and consistency in all outputs.
