DescriptionSUMMARY:

Designs complex engineering products, processes, or equipment, including specifications and assembly and manufacturing methods sequence, for company products and or manufacturing and assembly equipment. Utilizes CAD systems extensively. Carries out finite element analysis as a regular part of design assignments. May advise lower level non exempt clerical and technical staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works independently to gather data and input on the development of original designs or adaptations of existing designs after having been given general instructions regarding purpose and parameters.

Prepares and presents preliminary drawings, sketches or diagrams reflecting basic concept in order to obtain confirmation of approach, concept, and or technique.

Conducts presentations with suppliers, customers and various internal departments to obtain input on, agreement with, and understanding of project objectives and schedules.

May supervise detailers in the accomplishment of projects or assignments.

Participates in the initial studies and cost estimates for proposed projects and suggests changes to facilitate manufacture and assembly.

Prepares bill of materials and standards or specifications and participates in the development of project budgets, schedules, and release dates.

May be required to travel. All other duties as assigned.

PMA GROUP:

Support the PMA Group as the principal CAD developer. Train other engineers in CAD. Maintain the CAD system to support development effort through software upgrades, equipment, maintenance, and filing system. Create the complex CAD drawing which require intermediate to expert skill level. Create and assist in the development of inspection plans for first article inspection and product assurance inspection. Performs reverse engineering on complex engine, aircraft and component parts in order to replicate and or improve the design leading to manufacturing. Ability to interpret laboratory metrology and material data for the purpose of developing specifications and drawings design data. Ability to create a design drawing, including all surface features, GDT, and manufacturing notes. Understand applicable federal aviation regulations and how they relate to the design of the part. Demonstrate compliance of design and prototype part to all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations. Evaluate the instructions for continued airworthiness for suitability and create and edit as required. Perform load analysis, failure analysis, stress strain analysis and understand the structural integrity of the part. Utilization of finite element analysis software required. Ability to research technical data, component maintenance manual, aircraft maintenance manuals, service bulletins, specifications, assembly drawings, detail drawings, service reports, advisory circulars, and airworthiness directives. Assure no patents exist for parts. Develop project plan with cost and schedule. Monitor progress and report status to PMA Group and management at milestone reviews. Create a substantiation package using the research and design data to present to the FAA for approval.

As required by the business, works with various equipment and disciplines to increase production, quality, efficiency, and volume an/or environmental suitability. Possesses in depth and broad technical knowledge throughout the area of specialty. Possesses unique ability to apply new technology or existing technology in creative ways to assigned product areas. Acts as a liaison between production personnel and management. Has broad latitude for un-reviewed technical action and decision.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required.

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Arts degree BA or Bachelor of Science degree BS from four year college or university or eight years related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. In depth knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and is disciplines in their application. Minimum of five years of experience in the field. Outstanding performance as Engineer. Possesses proven written and oral communications, technical presentation and Finite Element Analysis FEA skills. Written and Oral Comprehension Outstanding Engineer Level 1 performance Must be able to perform basic math functions Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
