As a key member of the Information Technology (IT) team, the Director of EHR Applications reports to the VP & Chief Digital Transformation and Information Officer and provides strategic direction and innovation that delivers optimal value for enterprise-wide clinical applications and EHR (EPIC). The Director role leads the selection, development, implementation, and adoption of advanced clinical systems for the enterprise. The individual must be able to work autonomously while concurrently building technical and best practice process linkages to ensure TCHHN enhances the patient experience and maintains leadership in Patient Safety, Quality, and Cost Effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for overall management of the Epic ambulatory applications (both clinical and financial) deployed across the enterprise.
Coordinates workflow analysis within/between ambulatory and/or hospital operations.
Provides support for the advancement of and success for the Centricity and Nextgen applications.
Responsible for day-to-day administration of the ambulatory system, with assistance from Project Managers, Team Leaders, and Infrastructure Specialists.
Provides leadership, activity planning, coordination, and directions to complete the assigned project team tasks, produce the required deliverables, track and resolve issues, and meet the relevant system milestones.
Monitors the status of the system and takes any steps necessary to re-direct priorities, re-direct resources, re-define the work, etc., to ensure completion of system tasks in the agreed-upon timeframe.
Responsible for resolution of all issues escalated to the Steering Committee and the Information Technology Executive Steering Committee.
Responsible for managing future waves/rollouts of Epic ambulatory applications deployed to any additional TCHHN or community physician sites.
Works closely with IT and TCHHN management to support clinical, business, and technology projects to deliver on the IT commitments and activities.
Supplier Relationship Management:
Coordinates effective working relationships with technology suppliers regarding pricing, quality, and performance objectives to accommodate changing business priorities.
Financial Oversight:
Administers activities associated with information technology projects, while managing established capital and expense budgets.
Identifies and resolves in conjunction with IT Services Management any billing payment disputes with vendors in accordance with contractual payment dispute processes, where designated.
Prepares monthly project reports with actual and budgeted expenditures for the CIO, IT Executive Management Team, and TCH senior management.
Identifies and implements cost reduction opportunities, where appropriate.
Technology Project Oversight:
Provides leadership to ensure IT Services goals and plans are aligned with those of the operational departments both within the Hospital and in the Clinics/Practices.
Ensures compliance with appropriate processes, policies, and structures to govern the organization’s IT operations and ensure data security in compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement:
Demonstrates a professional attitude and ability to relate well with executive management, physicians, other care providers, patients, and others in the healthcare community.
Proactively identifies improvement opportunities and implements solutions required to improve IT service.
Monitors customer satisfaction for IT services within the business and mitigates complaints about IT service quality.
Mentors other IT Services and End-users personnel to foster professional and personal development in conjunction with the successful implementation and adoption of Clinical and Financial systems.
Fosters a service-oriented atmosphere of teamwork between the business and IT through regular meetings with Clinical and Financial Teams.
Performs other duties as necessary or assigned by the Chief Information Officer or TCH Executive Management Team.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree strongly preferred in Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
Required Experience:
10+ years of experience delivering and supporting clinical systems which includes at least 3 years leadership of EHR/clinical IT solutions in a complex hospital system, experience implementing or upgrading an integrated electronic health record (EHR) in at least one health system, direct Epic experience, including certification in an Epic clinical application. Experience with integrated/interfaced devices, applications, and workflows, application architecture & infrastructure design/concepts pertaining to large-scale application deployment strategies. Experience with budget management (capital, operating, project) and vendor relationship management.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, client relations and relationship building, analytical, project management, expert level presentation, and communication (written/verbal) skills.
