Job Summary Within the Innovation Technology Division, the EHR Medication Systems Director has responsibility for the oversight and management of the Willow Inpatient, Willow Ambulatory, and Beacon Oncology systems, including their integrated medication barcoding systems, used throughout UC Davis Health System and its hosted affiliates by physicians, clinicians, and staff. Responsibilities include the management of timelines, resources, and budgets; system development, testing and implementation; application enhancements; medication interfaces; customer support; quality assurance and resolution of patient safety issues; and medication reporting. In this role, the Director is a strong leader, a key member of the IT management team, and a primary resource to IT, as well as UCDH management, regarding EHR medication systems use. The Director represents the IT Division and UCDH to internal and external parties regarding all EHR medication systems. The Director works closely with the Director of Pharmacy, the managers of Epic Information Technology Systems, Clinical Applications, Business Applications, and Technical Services, and other UCDH and IT leaders to provide comprehensive management of the medication functions for the IT Division.
Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training. Experience implementing and supporting multiple applications within clinical information systems. Prior experience serving as a technical leader and information resource to clinical users and management, providing guidance and recommendations on optimal strategies and policies for quality, efficiency, and functionality improvement within clinical application systems. Experience planning and delegating work, creating staff schedules to provide operational support, resource management, budgeting, and financial management. Advanced knowledge and 5 + years' demonstrated expertise in clinical applications systems lifecycle including planning, design, development, testing, integration, programming, data integrity and security, and end user support and training.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership skills, demonstrated ability to oversee staff to manage extensive cross-functional interactions between clinical application teams, users, related personnel, and third-party vendors as proven through one or more enterprise-wide application deployment. Proven ability to work independently, set priorities, organizes work, and meet deadlines. Ability to manage time schedules, manage multiple requests and priorities, and to maintain productivity. Ability to manage several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when prioritizing projects for assignments. Excellent communicator; comfortable and effective in opening channels of communication, listening to customers' needs, and cultivating a healthy, productive, and ongoing dialogue. Mentoring, teaching and communication skills necessary for interactions with department staff and other UC employees as necessary. Demonstrates good judgment in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions. Ability to use analytical, research, and other techniques. Analyzes complex situations or problems and contributes to their resolution. Builds partnerships, seeks input from others, and creates ad hoc teams as required to address challenging problems. Ability to independently conduct research, perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of diverse information and prepare analysis and reports in logical format. Ability to analyze data from multiple sources and present meaningful report formats. Knowledge of the principles of quality control and improvement. Ability to recognize aberrant values. Ability to develop and generate management or summary reports using relevant data, analysis, and data visualization techniques. Ability to compose reports, correspondence and summaries in a comprehensive organized format. Detailed knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other tools in the Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications Epic Willow, Epic Beacon, or Epic Willow Ambulatory certification BS Pharmacy or Doctorate in Pharmacy Experience supporting pharmacy clinical applications Experience managing clinical applications teams
