Purpose of PositionThe Vice President is a senior leader that fosters continued improvement for all financial functions, including financial reporting, accounting, revenue management, budget and planning, audit, and accounts payable. Additionally, as a member of the leadership team, this individual will play an integral role in the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to maximize PUF resources and report accurate financial results.
Essential Functions
Direct the development of the organization's overall financial policies and reporting formats and timeline
Oversee annual and long-term strategic planning and budgeting processes
Direct the development of the organization’s internal audit policies and structure, including look-backs and post audits
Extensive financial analysis and valuation modeling of proposed transactions. Responsible for planning and directing the design, development, and implementation of financial models
Provide board-level materials and present financial reporting, as needed
Develop financial performance measures [“key performance indicators”] that support University Lands' strategic direction
Lead and mentor existing management team in continuous improvement initiatives
Perform repeated and timely high-level budget-to-actual analysis
Accountable for external auditing strategy and implementation with third party auditors and internal teams
Review and approve all internal and external audit requests, reports, and responses
Supervise commercial due diligence and participate in the negotiation process(es)
Work directly with commercial, engineering, legal, and other key internal teams throughout transaction/project life cycle
Conduct research to support the development of investment strategies and to identify transaction/project opportunities. Contribute expertise to strategic business plans
Special projects as requested by senior leadership

Strong quantitative and analytical skills. Data-driven, disciplined, objective and detail-oriented

Position requires extensive interaction with external clients – ranging from small operators to Fortune 500 companies
Proven decision-making skills and good business and professional judgment
Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast paced environment while providing oversight, training, and guidance
Excellent Excel financial modeling and PowerPoint presentation abilities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or closely related field from an accredited institution
Minimum of 10 years of financial management, financial planning and analysis, revenue management or other relevant experience in the Oil and Gas industry
Must have demonstrated experience in planning, reporting, and analytics
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience preferred
Working knowledge of University Lands’ business practices
Advanced degree preferred (MBA, masters)
CPA preferred
Experience working with executive leadership
Experience preparing board-level materials
Knowledge of Texas Railroad Commission Rules and Regulations
Working Conditions
May work around standard office conditions
Uses standard office equipment
Requires occasional evening or weekend hours
Additional InformationThe standard retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. However, the incumbent of this position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
A background check will be conducted on applicants under final consideration. The background check may include any or all of the following: criminal history check, prior employment verification, education verification, professional references check, and motor vehicle records check.
