As Service Express has been growing, so have our teams to support our global expansion! As such, we are looking for a
Senior Legal Counsel
professional to provide high-quality legal advice across the global business to ensure compliance with Service Express' commercial, governance, and legal obligations and objectives. It will include document drafting, negotiating, corporate governance, training and advising relevant business units and stakeholders.
This person will also lead and develop a team to support business units across the organization, including sales, vendor management and service on a range of legal issues in the most effective way possible.
This position will primarily support the North American jurisdiction, but some support and assistance to the European and Global parts of the business may be required from time to time, as the business needs dictate.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to effectively manage priorities to meet business requirements and deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This is an opportunity to step into a leadership position as part of a small but growing legal department as the business continues to expand internationally. You will be involved in decision making, strategy and policy as well as helping to shape the legal support offered across territories.
Here's what this role is all about:
Actively and successfully coach contract specialists to discover where and how they can develop, while also ensuring they have the resources they need
Review, draft, and negotiate contracts
Prepare standard templates and precedents
Provide legal training across the organization to ensure compliance with legal requirements
Advise on data protection issues and the use and transfer of data both within the organization and to third parties
Advise on disputes and the legal rights of the company
Support and manage corporate governance of the North American group companies, including registrations, officers, corporate charters and intercompany arrangements
Provide general legal advice and guidance to the business where needed
Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
Manage key stakeholder relationships within the North American organization
Participate in the development of process and systems within the legal function
Work with, and coordinate instructions to, external counsel agreed upon with the Legal and Compliance Director
Support the Legal and Compliance Director and other team members in multinational opportunities
What we are hoping you can bring to the Service Express team:
Qualified attorney in Michigan or other comparable State or jurisdiction
5-8+ years of post-qualification experience in negotiation and drafting
Strong commercial law experience, particularly in B2B sales
Prior experience successfully coaching and developing individuals
Proven ability to identify and implement opportunities for improvement across the team, systems and processes
Experience working as in-house counsel is preferrable but not mandatory
Background working in the IT sector (including infrastructure services, software licensing or SaaS models) is highly beneficial but not required
Ability to work in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
