JOB SUMMARY

In partnership with, and reporting to, the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides focus, direction, and vision in carrying out the mission of Community Connections, modeling the core values at all times. The Executive Director ensures a clear strategic plan is developed and implemented, providing leadership for day-to-day operations and assuring a smoothly functioning, efficient organization in pursuit of plan goals and exceptional service delivery. All Community Connections employees are expected to contribute to the professional reputation of the agency through understanding and promoting the organization’s mission and core values in all aspects of services.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Supervise the Directors of Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, Senior & Disability Services, Finance Director, Deputy Director, HR Manager, Facilities Maintenance Coordinator and other agency personnel as needed.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assures the organization has a long-range strategic plan in achievement of its mission, providing leadership to make timely progress toward plan goals, and prioritizing activities to address immediate and long term needs.Ensures business activities and practices are aligned with the agency’s mission and core values while developing, delivering, and maintaining comprehensive, high-quality services.Works cooperatively with the Board to support them in fulfilling their governance functions, facilitating optimum Board performance, and ensuring Board members have the resources necessary to make well-informed decisions.Develops, revises, and recommends policies to the Board of Directors, implementing procedures to ensure policies are achieved.Identifies, acquires, and diversifies funding sources by writing grant proposals, designing fundraising activities, and negotiating with various funding agencies to support program activities, service delivery, and agency health.Ensures effective risk management and compliance activities are conducted, including assuring the filing of all legal and regulatory documents, monitoring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, serving as the Contract Agent for the organization, seeking legal and other professional services as warranted.Maintains a high professional profile, building relationships by diversifying, educating, engaging, and energizing the various stakeholders of Community Connections.Assures program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.Facilitates a positive work environment that recruits, retains, and supports high-quality staff, while assuring effective human resource functions of selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff.Directs the preparation and implementation of the annual agency-wide operating and capital budget in collaboration with the Finance Director and in partnership with Program Directors and Board of Directors.Reviews monthly financial results to ensure programs are in alignment with their approved budgets and that plans for improvement are developed if budget deviations are sufficient enough to warrant this action.Manages staff by setting clear and aligned performance goals and expectations, providing effective feedback and coaching, measuring progress and holding people accountable, recognizing achievement and lessons learned, and supporting ongoing professional development.Facilitates effective group planning sessions and meetings to include senior management meetings, strategic planning, work sessions, and others.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge in the methods, theories, and practices of human service systems, service delivery, and management.Knowledge and ability to develop, maintain, and audit organization’s non-profit financial structure.Knowledge and ability to implement quality human services.Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to key areas of responsibility.Skilled in and the ability to use effective strategies to hire, supervise, and retain high-quality staff.Skilled in and ability to perform grant research, writing, reporting, and records management.Skilled in business and professional level written and oral communications.Ability to exercise initiative, leadership, and judgment in the completion of assignments.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, including financial statements.Ability to be an analytic and decisive decision maker – collecting necessary data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions.Ability to prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.Ability to adapt to challenging situations and possess creative problem solving.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, and the public.Ability to be personable, with a notably positive attitude.Ability to keep informed of developments in human services, not-for-profit management and governance, philanthropy, and fund development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in a human service, healthcare or business-related field. Five plus years’ advanced financial, supervisory and administrative experience.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check under agency guidelines and state regulations and obtain Alaska driver’s license and liability insurance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience providing services within a human service field to include home and community services and health care. Experience interpreting and implementing Medicaid regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Must be able to travel to remote areas in small planes.
