Director of Finance

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and financial planning of the organization, managing accounting and internal controls, setting financial targets, and developing a financial strategy to ensure that the organization’s financial accountability goals and objectives are met. The position will direct and manage the activities of finance, accounting, and campaign fundraising to ensure accurate reporting and effective management of the organization’s assets. The position develops and maintains financial protocols to ensure that the organization is compliant with GAAP standards as well as grant funder financial regulations, assessing the financial markets and identifying solutions to financial issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement, and manage the finance strategic goals and objectives.

Set-up and oversee the organization’s financial IT systems.

Drive the financial planning of the organization by analyzing its performance and risks.

Manage and report to the leadership team the Finance, Accounting, and Campaign Donations to ensure accurate and timely completion of the finance function.

Effectively develop, maintain, monitor, and analyze financials, grants, budgets, and projections.

Oversee the financial period close and audit processes and reporting.

Manage and monitor grants and contracts to ensure compliance.

Develop and implement financial and donor management systems, programs, queries, and reports to maintain a system of controls, accuracy, and functionality over all accounting and campaign fundraising management functions.

Conduct financial planning meetings with grantors, department managers, and the leadership team.

Oversee the internal and external financial and governance audit processes and relationships.

Conduct internal audits on campaign and financial activity.

Design, document, implement, and provide training for policies, procedures, and processes to ensure accurate and efficient recording and processing of financial information.

Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors.

Maintain records to document training in compliance with organizational and funding standards.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Five years of leadership experience in a finance or accounting role.

3-5 years of financial experience in nonprofit.

Excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, financial and database management systems.

Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including giving presentations, facilitating training sessions, and conducting meetings.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines efficiently and effectively.

Capable of maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

Experience working in a diverse cross-functional team environment.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Experience in working collaboratively and constructively on teams.

Creative problem solver.

Able to work independently and follow through on assignments from inception to completion.

Continuous Quality Improvement and Results-based Accountability experience and an expressed desire to adhere to related principles.

High energy, flexible, self-starter, and a self-learner.
