Definition:
The Community and Neighborhood Resources Director provides leadership in the organization and the community and is responsible for the overall management of all functions of Community and Neighborhood Resources Division, including community relations, mediation, and neighborhood services as well as community engagement and social equity programs. This position provides expert-level services to the organization, supporting outreach and engagement with sectors of our community who face disparities and systemic challenges.
Principal Duties:
Supervise and provide direction to all major Division functions including: Neighborhood Group Leader Program; Neighborhood Revitalization; Community Relations/Cultural Competency; Mediation/Alternative Dispute Resolution; Community Problem-solving, Engagement and Public Participation.
Establish and sustain the vision and service philosophy that guides the work of Community and Neighborhood Resources Division.
Develop annual budget and perform financial management responsibilities; oversee program evaluation and performance measurement for Division functions.
Recruit, select, mentor, supervise, train and develop staff.
Provide guidance for other city staff, supervisors, and departments to understand and implement equity approaches.
Develop, implement and manage/coordinate direct services to Longmont neighborhoods.
Collaborate with other City Departments in community problem solving.
Manage Neighborhood Group Leaders Association (NGLA).
Work with neighborhood resource staff to administer the City’s Neighborhood Improvement and Neighborhood Activities programs.
Work with schools, the business community, civic, and other community groups.
Serve as a member of the Leadership Team that guides and provides direction on organizational equity.
Develop and provide guidance in a lead role to embed equity and sustain the City’s innovative community engagement strategies.
Prepare a variety of written reports and make oral presentations.
Model organizational values and attributes in developing effective working relationships.
Working Environment:
Work is generally performed in both a standard office environment and in community-based settings requiring local travel. Work requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment, audiovisual equipment, and to operate a passenger vehicle. Frequent after-hours work is required to attend evening and weekend community meetings.
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major emphasis in social science, public administration, human relations, community development or related field, and at least five years progressively responsible professional experience in community relations or development, neighborhood engagement, public administration, facilitation, DEI practices, and community problem-solving. At least three years of supervisory experience preferred.
Special Qualifications:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) Intermediate proficiency required.
