The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project.

We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 18,000 girls and 10,000 adult members.

We are looking for a passionate Associate Director of Member Experience who will support the Chief Membership Officer in the implementation of a comprehensive volunteer experience strategy.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

Collaborate with the Chief Membership Officer to implement and enhance the overall volunteer experience strategy.

Work closely with the Director of Membership to align growth and retention strategies.

Oversee the implementation and management of the Girl Scout Experience Box initiative.

Contribute to the successful operation of the council, through compliance with expectations, proactive communication with management, and fostering healthy relationships with staff and community stakeholders.

Collaborate with the Troop Support Managers to develop creative ideas for early membership renewal campaigns.

Work closely with Business Integration to analyze a variety of data and prepare relevant reports to support volunteer engagement initiatives and cross-functional goals.

Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all staff, volunteers, and interested parties.

Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and produce results.

Plan and conduct informative online and in-person sessions to introduce leaders to the resources available to them.

Send onboarding communications to new volunteers to welcome and answer questions.

Oversee development and management of reference materials and standard operating procedures, ensuring quality control.

Oversee development of manuals, forms, procedures, and processes.

Organize an annual event to celebrate and recognize new leaders’ contributions.

Ensure timely and effective use of GSUSA survey data to inform the council of initiative successes and areas for review.

Attend New Leader Orientation sessions as needed.

Provide guidance and answer questions related to volunteer roles and responsibilities from the team.

Create insightful reports on volunteer engagement, using council-wide feedback gathered through multiple sources.

Attend Mission Delivery and Girl Scout Experience Box calls and meetings.

Maintain open office hours for volunteers seeking assistance or guidance.

Share retention insights, learnings, and best practices with the Director of Membership to enhance recruitment collaboration.

Foster collaboration across departments to enhance the overall volunteer experience journey.

Ensure alignment with organizational goals and values.

Other duties as assigned.

Staff members are accountable for achieving their performance goals that collectively enable GSNNJ to reach our council goals. Each staff member is expected to take an active role in all areas of operations, especially by being alert to opportunities to identify and engage potential volunteers, girl members, donors, vendors, collaborators, etc., and providing contact information to the appropriate staff person.

Education, Skills, Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field.

Prior experience with supervising staff.

Prior experience with strategic planning of initiatives.

Demonstrated problem-solving leadership with limited oversight in a rapidly evolving environment.

Committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment with words and actions.

Able to analyze data or trends and provide summaries and recommendations.

Build and maintain strong external and internal cross-functional team relationships and partnerships to support membership growth.

Ability to identify and solve problems.

Ability to maintain excellent customer service.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Exceptional time management capability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Membership in GSUSA is required upon employment and annually thereafter.

Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and auto insurance.

Ability to travel throughout the jurisdiction to attend meetings during the day/evening/weekend.
