This is a highly responsible and seasoned financial management position assisting the Chief Financial Officer with the overall management of the Finance department. Work includes responsibility for assuring that the organization’s financial systems are sound and that records are accurate, up-to-date and in keeping with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies and other relevant laws, rules and guidelines.

Major Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties

Plan, direct and supervise the daily financial and fiscal management aspects of the organization, including cash flow planning, cash, investment and asset management, business planning, accounting, budgeting, reporting and auditing.

Interview, hire, supervise, coach, evaluate, discipline and assist employees in setting and meeting performance goals. Develop and monitor performance and responsibilities of assigned staff while monitoring staffing patterns.

Manage electronic and manual financial records and systems and recommend the implementation of improved systems, policies and procedures for effective and efficient financial operations and internal controls.

Manage and direct the annual capital and operating budget preparation for the organization and ensure related statistical and budget variance reports are completed while monitoring budgetary compliance throughout the year.

Develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.

Partner with department managers to provide consultative support on issues regarding financial planning and accounting systems.

Formulate responses to internal and external auditors and the organizations’ officers.

Establish and monitor effective internal controls to assure protection of the organization assets.

Serve on the Safety Committee and fulfill all committee responsibilities as outlined in the Quality Assurance Program for the organization.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, reach, stand, bend, walk for periods of time depending on daily responsibilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Ability

Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting and budgeting principles and procedures and their application, contract negotiations and cost control, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare environment.

Ability, knowledge and experience managing finance for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting.

Ability to interact and deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, auditors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Considerable knowledge and experience with automated financial systems and spreadsheet analyses (strong Excel and other Microsoft Office product skills).

Ability to design, prepare and interpret a variety of financial reports and statements.

Needs to be accurate, timely and responsive.

Ability to interpret, communicate and implement policies, procedures, regulations, financial records, reports, etc., to all constituencies.

Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc. necessary to provide quality services and maintain sound business operations.

Demonstrated competency in financial management, leadership in an interdisciplinary environment, systems-thinking and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to lead and motivate staff to achieve the desired results.

Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Ability to speak publicly and effectively to large or small groups, including a corporate board.

Desired Knowledge, Skills And Ability

Risk management and corporate compliance experience and background.

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.

Certified in Public Accounting licensure.

Eight years’ experience in financial accounting.

Three years financial management experience.

Experience in nonprofit finance management.

Desired Education And Experience

Master’s Degree in accounting, business administration or related field.
