Principal Research Scientist

ThayerMahan, Inc is seeking a principal research scientist in acoustics and signal processing at its Lexington, MA or Groton, CT. Due to our work with the U.S. Government, this role legally requires that you are a U.S. citizen.Candidates should hold a PhD degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics, preferably with 5-10 years of post-graduate experience. At the principal scientist level, the qualifications include a broad theoretical foundation combined with some experimental/data analysis experience, as well as the ability to develop and lead independent research initiatives.Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Individuals must show evidence of the ability to:Write research proposals and test plansPrepare and deliver sponsor briefingsAuthor technical reports and open-literature publicationsIn addition to these expectations, the successful candidate should possess the ability to:Lead a software development teamPerform acoustic and oceanographic data analysisAdvise the application of digital signal processing theory to multi-channel sensor array processing in a real-time embedded computing environmentPreference will be shown to those candidates with programming experience in C, facility with Linux operating systems, and a willingness to travel and support at-sea experiments.
