The Director of Advancement Data Management, Technology & Strategy manages, directs, and implements all advancement data, systems, and processes for our alumni and constituent engagement efforts. The key focus is to provide leadership and expertise in all aspects of advancement data management including improvement of the quality and fidelity of data consumed by business processes and analytics use cases. This role manages a team of data professionals and reports through the Advancement Services Division.

Required to formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others. Communicates clearly and effectively with customers who have varying levels of technical knowledge within advancement and in other university offices. Demonstrates professional demeanor and is able to exercise discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

Will exemplify the tone of the department, displaying with enthusiasm an exceptional level of professionalism, knowledge, productivity and high ethical standards to vendors and internal, campus-wide constituents. Interacts with senior management to keep abreast of objectives. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management/customers/vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs. Partners cross-functionally across the organization and closely where and when needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and demonstrated experience administering alumni and constituent data systems and processes in an educational or non-profit environment. Demonstrated skill in developing queries, reports, and dashboards, and understanding both the importance and mechanics of data segmentation. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and challenging deadlines. Strong communication skills and responsiveness when interacting with internal partners. Extraordinary attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree preferred. Five years of experience overseeing alumni and constituent data systems and services.
Knowledge & Skills
Experience with Raiser’s Edge software applications as well as SQL Server. Experience using Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software and reporting software preferred. Experience with asset management software. Demonstrated experience creating automated integration jobs and processes using API and/or other ETL tools (Informatica, Talend, R, Python, etc.). Demonstrated experience in organizing, maintaining, managing and troubleshooting data to meet business requirements.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
Supervises the Advancement Data Management Team consisting of 3-5 data professionals including but not limited to: Database Administrator, Data Auditor, Database Coordinator, Integration Specialist, and student workers or graduate assistants as needed. Assists with relevant parts of the overall Advancement Services budget.
Key Responsibilities
Leads and manages the team
that builds, maintains, and is responsible for the overall accuracy and reliability of the university’s alumni and constituent data systems, and reporting. Builds and implements data imports/exports, updates, and data appends. Utilizing strong technical acumen to lead delivery, planning, and execution of database tuning and refinement. Conducts data audits to identify data integrity issues and resolve data issues; builds and implements a data management plan. Percentage Of Time: 30 Manages deployment, monitoring, and maintenance
of technology and equipment related to advancement. Leads the design and implementation of technologies to support advancement applications. Works with key stakeholders to formulate a comprehensive technology plan consistent with the overall business objectives and budgetary considerations. Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes; identifying problems; evaluating trends; and anticipating requirements. Percentage Of Time: 30 Creates and delivers qualitative queries, reports, and lists
to facilitate the work of the advancement team (e.g. alumni outreach, special events, donor prospecting, annual giving campaigns, gift management, etc.). Builds and generates reports needed to evaluate the university’s advancement efforts (e.g. year over year comparisons, monitoring progress to goals, trends, etc.). Provides accurate, timely, and informed responses to ad-hoc data requests. Percentage Of Time: 25 Manages the advancement information systems access requests policy
and process including defining role-based security, confidentiality agreements, and annual review and audit of users of our systems. Percentage Of Time: 10 Stays abreast of new and developing tools , technology, and processes related to higher education alumni and donors, and makes recommendations to the advancement leadership regarding updates/upgrades or new tools needed.
