Job Description

Position OverviewThe Calm Waters vision is to be the leading provider of grief support services for children and families throughout Central Oklahoma, and beyond. Serving as a safe place for those who have experienced a loss to receive grief resources, peer support, and hope for the future.

The CEO will lead all community engagement, operational, fundraising, staff management and programmatic facets of the organization. This individual will be responsible for advancing and promoting the reputation and position of the organization as well as growing the donor base and development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

STRATEGIC DIRECTIONMonitors and reports to the Calm Waters Board of Directors the progress of the agency, and any challenges encountered regarding the agency.Collaborates with the Board to refine and implement strategic planning and recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.Ensures that Board communications and interactions are timely, accurate and transparent.Maintains current knowledge on emerging trends and developments that can affect the agency and its mission, vision, and values.Possesses a forward-thinking mindset, able to conceptualize innovative strategies and solutions that drive organizational growth and success.

LEADERSHIPInspires the staff to adopt the strategic directions as set by the Board of Directors and CEO to ensure tactics and strategies are completed to meet the goals and objectives in the plan.Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards staff members, fostering a supportive and positive work environment.Motivates staff to achieve organizational goals by developing and implementing strategies that encourage a high-performing work culture.Inspires an open and collaborative work environment by building strong relationships with the team, communicating transparently.Creates a collaborative work environment where team members are encouraged to take ownership, make decisions, and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

MANAGEMENT AND OVERSIGHTProvides all direction and oversight for the programs of the agency.Demonstrated financial acumen and ability to analyze and manage financial data including oversight of the budget and financial statement preparation, and ensures sound financial controls are in place and enforced.

DEVELOPMENTPossesses a proven record in donor development and cultivating strong relationships with major gift donors.Works with community partners and cultivates relationships with new partners, donors, and volunteers.Supports the raising of necessary funds for the ongoing operations of the agency from individuals, corporations, foundations, public sources and grants.Serves as public spokesperson for the agency, including making presentations, speeches and appearing in the media.

PROGRAMMINGOversees the ongoing evaluation of program effectiveness, collecting and analyzing data to inform program improvement and expansion.Develops and implements innovative programs and services aligned with the organization's mission and strategic goals, ensuring maximum impact and community benefit.

HUMAN RESOURCES RESPONSIBILITIESLead planning and oversight related to employee benefit programs.Anticipate, acquire, allocate, and coordinate all Calm Waters’ workforce needs to most effectively use their collective and individual skill sets.Serve as the primary point of contact and consultant for advising and ultimate decision-making regarding human resource-related issues such as, but not limited to:ComplaintsCompensationPTOStaffing issues and needsEqual employment opportunityRecruitment, interviews, selection, and hiring/firingSexual harassmentSecure and maintain compliance and accountability with Board-ratified policies addressed in Calm Waters’ Employee Handbook and/or discern or seek appropriate counsel regarding matters that are not directly specified in the Handbook.Maintains strict confidentiality with records and other information that may be assigned.

Additional skills and abilities requiredDemonstrates excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills.Must be an innovative self-starter searching for ways to enhance programming, funding and awareness of Calm Waters.Demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds, leveraging strong social service skills.Willingness to meet personally with all donors, staff, and collaborators.

Physical and Travel RequirementsOccasional local and national travel required during evenings and weekends to present and promote Calm Waters.Occasional lifting up to 25lbs, bending, and kneeling throughout the day.Prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.Valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance Coverage.

Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree and proven leadership experience.A minimum of 10 years of nonprofit experience preferred with experience collaborating and working with a variety of community partners. Fundraising and resource development experience required.Experience in grant writing.Experience with Prezi, PowerPoint, Microsoft 365, including excel.Strong strategic and analytical mindset.
