Middle and High School Programs Site Director - Meadowood
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.
Program Description:
MSCR operates Meadowood Neighborhood Center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison's southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide a safe, supervised place for youth during afterschool and evening hours, for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness and much more. This position will work directly with our youth afterschool programs and may cross over into other program areas as needed or assigned.
Job Description & Duties:
Supervise and evaluate seasonal program staff.
Observe and coach staff and volunteers.
Provide ongoing support for program staff which includes problem solving staff and participant issues.
Facilitate open communication with parents of program participants, participants, and staff.
Establish and ensure a physically and emotionally safe program environment.
Administer first-aid and/or medication as needed.
Request supplies from the Center Assistant Director.
Complete reports and ensure protocol is being followed for MSCR lunch and snack programs with Second Harvest, DPI and MMSD Food Service.
Communicate transportation needs to the Center Assistant Director.
Collaborate with the Center Assistant Director in determining staff assignments, work schedules, facilitating meetings and staff training.
Guide and support program staff and Center Assistant Director in processing behaviors with students and creating behavior plans for the program and individual students.
Maintain necessary records of enrollment and attendance.
Meet regularly with Center Assistant Director and other Meadowood Neighborhood Center staff.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Daily Responsibilities:
Facilitate check-in of participants and maintain attendance records.
Supervise and facilitate set-up and clean-up of program areas.
Facilitate the distribution of snack in compliance with Second Harvest, MMSD and DPI standards and regulations.
Distribute announcements and flyers as needed.
Stay for late pick-ups and/or no pick up. In the event of an extended late pick up or no-pick-up, contact parents, emergency contacts or Dane County Social Services.
Communicate and document any significant events using reports and other forms.
Communicate any significant staff or program issues with Center Assistant Director.
Ensure that program participants and staff follow the site’s behavior and participation expectations.
Lead the group by example and set the tone for a welcoming and inclusive program space.

Hours/week:
18.5 hours per week.
Work hours:
Mondays 2:30pm - 6:15pm, Tuesday - Thursday 4pm - 8pm, Friday 4:30pm - 7pm.

$18.00/hour
Minimum Qualifications:
Over 18 years of age with a High School or HSED/GED and some post-secondary education or certification related to field.
Experience working, volunteering or participating in neighborhood centers and community centers.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Computer knowledge and proficiency.
Experience working with or within marginalized communities on social justice initiatives, services, programs and initiatives.
Supportive of MSCR mission.
Ability to move/lift/carry up to 35lbs.
First Aid/CPR Certification (we can get you certified if you are not).
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and recreation program planning knowledge.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to build positive mentoring relationships with students and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Experience, interest and skill in working with children and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Dependability, teamwork and enthusiasm.
Ability to supervise, coach and motivate program staff and volunteers.
Other Information:
Required Certifications and Training: CPR, AED and First Aid Certification within 3 months of employment. MSCR provides free training for staff.
