MSCR offers a full range of recreation programs and services utilizing school facilities, parks, and other community facilities. Programs include fitness, aquatics, adult and youth sports, after school child care, summer camps, outdoor adventure, middle school youth resource centers, arts, and sports camps. MSCR is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District, providing public recreation and after school programming for the Madison community since 1926.Purpose of PositionThe purpose of this position is to develop, promote, coordinate and supervise a variety of activities for middle school students in a safe and enriching environment. Serve as a youth program site director during summer.Primary Functions/ExpectationsDevelop and implement a variety of out of school time activities for middle school students at assigned school.Lead MSCR Summer Youth programming.Create a physically and emotionally safe and welcoming program environment for all participants and staff.Develop an activity schedule that meets daily and annual requirements for the specific site.Recruit club leaders, sport coaches and volunteers from within and outside of school staff.Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff for a variety of out of school programs and activities.Conduct daily activity visits to monitor program effectiveness.Promote clubs and intramural sports to students and teachers within the school setting.Track participation statistics, maintain necessary records and submit reports.Monitor, be accountable for and stay within the site-based budget.Attend appropriate team, staff, and school meetings.Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities annually.Pay Rate: $28.67 per hourMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma and at least two years of post high school education in recreation, education, community organizing, volunteer coordination, related field or equivalent experience.At least one year of related experience in developing, managing, leading, and evaluating recreation programs.Strong organizational skills and recreation program planning knowledge.Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.Proven leadership abilities and effective problem-solving skills.Experience working with individuals and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.Preferred Qualifications:Experienced in positive youth development – preferably with middle school students.Proficiency with Google workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel.First Aid and/or CPR certification.Bilingual in Spanish.Other Information:For more information, contact Ian Hannah at ihannah@madison.k12.wi.us
