This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Reporting to the Vice President/CFO, with a primary focus on employee recruitment, onboarding, staff development and retention. The incumbent must demonstrate and foster collaborative behavior between all departments, staff, and volunteers.

POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director of Outreach & Teens, the Y-AIM Youth Advocate is responsible for the day-to-day operations including planning and implementation of the designated Y-AIM program at the YMCA of Greater Springfield and in coordination with other teen site location(s) in accordance with the YMCA mission and goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work closely with Y-AIM team to develop and implement teen programs including, but not limited to Youth In Government, Leaders’ Club, and Sports Leagues.

Work closely with the Associate Executive Director of Teens and staff to ensure programs are representing the needs of family center teen participants.

Serve as a member of the Teen Program team to ensure to actively participate in shared resources, scheduled activities, initiatives and programs.

Work in collaboration with the school personnel and leadership to access and mentor students during the academic day.

Participate in all staff development trainings, staff meetings and community events and maintain high standards with staff and programming.

Assist in maintaining a tracking database of all teen participants to report progress and accomplishments and produce specific reports to include: number of participants engaged in program and program retention, demographics, household information, academic achievement, community service projects, etc.

Assist in the development of new programs, promotions and special events.

Maintain teen program areas at program location(s).

Ensure all materials for the Y-AIM program are current and available (including inventory and ordering of merchandise, supplies, etc.)

Work with staff to ensure a safe environment for participants and promote best practices of customer service.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The position allows for a flexible schedule that will encompass morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours. Schedule is subject to change based on season and programming as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must be a minimum of 18 years old and have related experience working with or in a relevant field.

Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (if transporting youth in YMCA).

The ability to work effectively with co-workers, college interns and the Y-AIM staff in carrying out the program’s vision.

Understanding structure and reliability are vital to the Y-AIM program.

Must have experience working with teens and teen programming.

The ability to supervise and motivate teens and others to achieve the goals of the YMCA.

Must be able to communicate with others at all levels, exercise sound judgment and attention to detail.

Math and writing skills are required.

Ability to work with a diverse population and exhibit core YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

First Aid/CPR, AED or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
