The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) is hiring a Graphic Arts Designer. This position is responsible for producing highly skilled, creative, and diversified professional graphic design and layout work. The ideal candidate is highly organized and has an extensive knowledge of visual design, layout, graphic presentation, and has experience with museum exhibit graphics. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is a world class institution that welcomes more than 250,000 visitors every year and that houses one of the world's best collections of Lincoln-related documents, artifacts, and audiovisual materials. Job Responsibilities

1. Graphic Design and ConsultationProduces highly skilled, creative, and diversified professional graphic design and layout work as assigned and directed by the Exhibits & Shows Director.Communicates and consults with the Exhibits & Shows Director and other agency staff on design objectives, primarily on the execution of graphics for museum exhibits.Provides expertise in graphic arts, printing technology and methodology, interpolation of images to enlarge photos while reducing pixilation effects, including certificates, brochures, magazines, banners, logos, reports, covers, forms, letterheads, exhibit displays, reader rails, presentations, websites, PowerPoint presentations, advertisements, agency forms, handbooks, newsletters, and other related projects.Coordinates with the ALPLM Director of Marketing and Director of Communications relating to ongoing and future exhibits.Communicates and consults on design objectives and diagnoses needs while providing professional support to other departments by translating needs into graphic capabilities.2. Software, Tools and Technical Design

Utilizes computer software, hardware, and other graphic arts tools and equipment including multiple Macintosh and PC platforms, most recent Adobe Creative Suite for complex page design and layouts, which Includes Photoshop, Illustrator, lnDesign, DreamWeaver, and Flash as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional to perform complex imaging enhancements, graphic creations, and manipulate complex vector art.Performs complex page design and layouts, web design, and authoring (importing tabular data).Creates and modifies PDFs including fillable form fields and utilizes Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams. Develops or revises certificates, brochures, magazines, banners, logos, reports, covers, forms, and letterheads, exhibit display presentations, websites, and advertisements.Performs word processing, create templates for end users, and creates high quality presentations.Job Responsibilities (Continued)

3. Creative Project Management

Provides creative original solutions from concept through production, using manual techniques and/or personal computers with graphics related software and hardware for intricate projects such as four- color process for outside production.Designs complete promotional campaigns, logos, multi-projector slide shows, visuals for 1V and video, 3-dimensional displays and web sites.4. Vendor and Outsourcing Coordination

Recommends outsourcing media preparation due to cost or overtime factors.Prepares bid specifications and schedules production with printers, contractors, and sign painters to meet deadlines.Maintains professional working relationships with outside sources such as print shops, suppliers, and vendors to ensure appropriate supplies are ordered and received and to obtain printing by vendors.5. Design Updates & Communication

Makes recommendations for updating and maintaining current designs.Assists other agency staff in printing specific projects to ensure accurate color and paginations.Uploads files to websites and works with outside entities such as print shops to complete jobs.Works with media outlets and other businesses to advertising buys, creating, and editing videos, packaging and distributing videos, and editing and organizing photos.Job Responsibilities (Continued)

6. Graphic Design Technology and Software Maintenance

Maintains expertise in graphic arts, printing technology and methodology, including computer-based software/hardware and traditional techniques.Reviews and installs new software and upgrades.Downloads technical Information of software and consults with technical sources to resolve problems in the use of software.Uses best practices for file management and packaging all projects and assets.7.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with a concentration in art.Requires two (2) years of experience in art/design production or graphics.Specialized Skills

Prefers one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with visual design, layout, and graphic presentation.Prefers one (1) year demonstrated knowledge of appropriate software to effectively create graphic arts products.Prefers one (1) year of proven experience creating effective formats for forms, booklets, newsletters, and other agency publications.Prefers prior experience creating graphics for museum exhibits.Preferred Qualifications

Prefers one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with visual design, layout, and graphic presentation.Prefers one (1) year demonstrated knowledge of appropriate software to effectively create graphic arts products.Prefers one (1) year of proven experience creating effective formats for forms, booklets, newsletters, and other agency publications.Prefers prior experience creating graphics for museum exhibits.Prefers two (2) years experience of printing techniques related to graphic presentation and ability to operate a personal computer.Prefers the ability to exercise self-discipline and work under pressure to meet work deadlines and production schedules.Prefers ability to translate ideas into graphic expressions.Prefers extensive skill in drawing and use of color.Prefers ability to participate in planning and production of promotional educational and informational material.Prefers ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, commercial printers, and vendors.Conditions of Employment
