As a

Business Services Intern,

you will be an integral part of our Retirement team and ensure retirement benefits are administered effectively for the retiring team members we serve.You will receive hands-on experience in the field of retirement benefit plans. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn and dive into our retirement business services, including processing retirement refund/rollover and plan transfer applications, responding to member inquiries, and verifying salary and retirement benefit information.

To thrive in this role,you must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Hiring Range:

$18.00 - $20.00/hour

Schedule:

This internship will be approximately 15-20 hours per week. Additional hours may be offered based on student availability. Flexibility is offered to accommodate classes and student schedules.The duration of this internship is estimated to be nine to ten months but will be determined based on factors such as the student's availability and the needs of the division.

Location:

The position is based on-site at our office location in Bismarck, ND.

Summary of WorkProcess refund/rollover applications, respond to member inquiries for benefit payments and follow up on missing documentation.Process Defined Benefit to Defined Contribution retirement plan transfer applications and calculations, along with employer outreach verification.Perform data entry of retirement forms, including but is not limited to beneficiary forms, direct deposit information, and tax withholding.Calculate and provide service purchase estimates, finalize calculations, and assist with documents to rollover funds or other initiate other payment options.Research and respond to member or beneficiary inquiries regarding applications, incomplete forms, payments, and purchase status.This may include responding by phone, written correspondence or assisting in-person walk-ins.Conduct preliminary reviews and identify discrepancies in state employee pension benefit payments and new retiree accounts to be processed for monthly pension payroll.Verify member salaries, service credit, service purchases, final average salary, and retirement documentation on file.To be considered for this position, you must be:

Enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university.At least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship.Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale.Working in an internship that aligns with the your academic major or career goals. Majors in accounting, business administration, finance, human resources, or related fields will be accepted.Strong verbal and written communication skills are also required.
