The Accessible User Experience (AUX) Support Tester is a key, temporary position at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LightHouse) in San Francisco (with the potential to convert to a full-time role after 9-months). The AUX Specialist reports to the Director of AUX. We are seeking a passionate and experienced AUX Specialist to support our efforts in ensuring that technology and digital experiences are accessible to individuals who are blind or low vision. The AUX Support Tester will play a crucial role in advocating for and advancing accessibility standards/practices and partnering with organizations to improve the accessibility of their products/services in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors and the broader community. This position will support accessibility/usability testing initiatives as the primary focus, along with a secondary focus of supporting UX research studies and accessible UX trainings. This role will also collaborate with stakeholders and support relationships with corporate partners.QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., accessibility studies, computer science, human-computer interaction, UX design, etc), or a minimum of 1 year of experience in accessibility advocacy and accessibility testing for websites and apps on both computer desktops and mobile devices.Extensive experience using assistive technologies is required (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Zoom/Magnification, etc.) and experience with accessibility testing tools is strongly preferred, such as Deque axe Tools, IBM Equal Access, Level Access tools (Access Engine), Fable AUS, WAVE, etc.Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and accessible UX design principles, including WCAG, Section 508, and ARIA.Strong project management and organization skills.Excellent verbal/written communication skills and presentation abilities.Passion for promoting inclusivity and accessibility.Proficient in MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.).JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct accessibility/usability assessments and usability walk-throughs of websites, applications, digital content, and hardware products.Provide recommendations to partners on accessibility standards, such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and UX design principles.Support UX research projects with LightHouse “trusted testers” from the blind and low vision community.Support the Director of AUX with compiling reports and documenting results from accessibility/usability testing and UX research studies.Support collaboration with developers, UX designers, UX researchers, content creators, and other stakeholders at partner companies to help implement accessibility improvements.Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to carry or transport 40lbs.Sit/Stand at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods of time.Operate standard office equipment.Must be able to independently travel to all LightHouse physical locations and events as needed.WORKING CONDITIONS:
