Never or RarelyJOB DUTIES90% - Security and PatrolProtect and guard University property and make inspection rounds on foot and in vehicle in assigned areas to prevent hazards.Patrol designated areas and radio or phone UCSC Dispatch to advise of suspicious or criminal activity.Ensure assigned property is secure and notify law enforcement on suspicious activity.Serve as a communication link between the campus and University Police.Provide safety and security to the UCSC community.Monitor building alarm systems and notify the appropriate authorities in the event of alarm activations.10% - Administrative and Other DutiesComplete all logs for each shift worked.Monitor and respond to emails daily.Prepare incident reports for immediate supervisor.Participate in regular drills and practice sessions for emergency situations.Maintain familiarity with all posted notices regarding security issues.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.Skilled in interacting diplomatically with the public.Ability to learn and apply working knowledge of UCSC's Police Department.Working knowledge of radio codes and language.Ability to assess a problematic or emergency situation.Skilled in using available resources to solve problems.Ability to express ideas clearly in writing.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSCurrent CPR certificationBasic First Aid certificationGuard Card certificationSPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.Must possess a valid license to drive in California.Ability to work long periods of time at a computer.Ability to walk multiple nightly rounds on uneven surfaces.Ability to perform essential physical job functions.Ability to perform work in a rugged physical environment.Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary to move light to moderate objects.The selected candidate will be required to work all scheduled hours on-site.Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames.Clery Act: This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).Will be required to wear a University provided uniform.SAFETY STATEMENTAll UCSC employees must understand and follow job safety procedures.EEO/AAUniversity of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
