About This Role

Under the direction of the Head of Tax Operations, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and reviewing all aspects of U.S. domestic & international tax compliance.

Your Role Will Consist Of:

Lead, motivate and develop an experienced US Corporate income tax team of five individuals. Structure US Tax team to leverage skills and resources for critical roles. Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the income tax department.

Work closely with many cross-functional groups, including accounting, treasury, and FP&A teams in addition to managing servicing with external service providers.

Oversee preparation and review of all aspects of U.S. domestic & international tax compliance and planning including coordinating and supervising tax staff in their work to ensure timely, complete, and accurate compliance in all tax matters.

Lead and direct the preparation and review of Forms 1120, 1118, 5471, 8858, 8865, tax return disclosures, and elections related to foreign operations, and all other required domestic & international tax filings.

Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax return(s) and quarterly tax estimates by conducting a comprehensive review of federal and state tax returns, work papers, and computations prepared by staff, seniors, and/or interns.

Timely and accurate preparation of ASC 740 tax provision support, especially with respect to the US and Global taxable income calculations, GILTI, FDII, and foreign tax credit computations.

Oversee preparation of Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax (“CAMT”) calculations as well as BEPS/Pillar Two.

Direct point of contact with Cripple Creek and Victor Mining operations, handle all tax-related issues associated with the mine, including but not limited to overseeing property tax filings, sales and use tax filings, producing mines tax and assistance with business plan tax forecasting. This includes leading the tax projections in budgeting, forecasting LOM model planning, and analysis of the mine site. Actively engage with the Tax Leads at our joint ventures with Barrick.

Oversee completion of US portion of the Global Transfer Pricing report and study.

Oversee preparation and review of US FIN 48 documentation.

Dotted line oversight of Tax Technology Senior, including leading US Tax Technology build-out.

Advance technology automation of tax return workpapers.

Assist with the review and preparation of Newmont’s Beyond the Mine and ESTMA filings, including Economic Impact Reports where needed.

Manage preparation and review of Subpart F planning and compliance including calculating and substantiating inclusions for purposes of the US tax return and advising on related planning strategies.

Oversee preparation and review of Foreign Tax Credit calculation and substantiation for purposes of the US tax return including advising on tax strategies for maximizing foreign tax credit benefit.

Sourcing of Income & Allocation/Apportionment of Expenses for purposes of the foreign tax credit calculation.

Reviewing financial data for proper application of tax laws and advising on development and maintenance of accounting systems which provide tax information required to be reported.

Maintaining and communicating knowledge of past, present, and potential future tax laws, regulations, rulings, procedures, and court decisions. May include overseeing the preparation and review of amended federal and state tax returns where opportunities exist.

Direct point of contact with IRS Local Exam Team. Work closely with IRS Local Exam Team to provide audit support, including responses to IDRs and modeling scenarios as needed.

Manage IRS relationship on a daily basis.

Provide timely updates to Group Head of Tax regarding proposed IRS adjustments and planning opportunities.

Manage and mentor three to four direct reports.

Recruit, manage, train and develop staff to meet current and future needs.

Assist senior management on projects as needed.

Your Training, Skills, And Experience Checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Business, or related field with a minimum of 15 years of Subchapter C and international tax experience, preferably in public accounting or multinational corporation.

“Big Four” or equivalent experience is highly desirable.

Mining or natural resources industry experience a significant positive.

Ability to supervise staff and lead projects.

Previous Subchapter C and international compliance preparation and review experience.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills and strong attention to detail.

CPA certificate, MS, JD, and/or LL.M. degree is highly desirable.

Working Conditions and Location

The position is located in the Denver corporate office.

Occasional to frequent travel to domestic and international sites required.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $138,240 – 164,160. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
