The Director of Engineering’s principal responsibilities will be to level up Ubiety’s engineering team, and be responsible for setting and executing against Ubiety’s strategic technical vision and roadmap. The ideal candidate will be an experienced technology leader with demonstrable track record scaling at least one engineering organization from 5-10 to 50+, and will have delivered a technology-backed product to market that serves 1M+ users. The ideal candidate will also be an effective “player-coach” of engineering teams, with the ability to make scalable architectural and system design decisions as well as coach and mentor junior Individual Contributors as well as Engineering Managers.
What you'll need
Experience growing a technology team from 5-10 people to 50+
Experience leading a technology team that delivered a product in production to 1M+ users
A strong technical architecture background, with experience ensuring that underlying technology, architecture, and design decisions will support our needs at scale
Ability to attract top-tier talent, as well as inspire, mentor, and develop in-house Engineers and Engineering Managers
A strong Strategic Technical Vision - ability to define and execute a technology roadmap that aligns with business goals
Awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends, and technical skills to do deep research and make informed decisions about technology stacks, infrastructure, and tooling
Experience working with Executive Leadership Teams and collaborating effectively, including an ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound decisions under pressure
Experience driving operational excellence for an engineering team, including installing ceremonies and/or practices where useful, team member goal setting and performance tracking, making accurate scope projections, and installing best practices for code reviews, testing, and continuous integration / continuous deployment
A desire to “wear multiple hats” and handle diverse responsibilities
A strong desire to take on a significant leadership role and make a difference for Ubiety’s Engineering team and the organization as a whole.
What you'll be doing
Suggest and implement improvements across all aspects of Ubiety’s engineering team, including attracting top-tier talent, building and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture, and inspiring, mentoring, and coaching other Engineers and Engineering Managers.
Lead design and architectural decisions for Ubiety’s most mission-critical technology components, writing feature requirements, suggesting and reviewing technical designs, and working across teams to craft innovative solutions for complex problems.
Build, maintain, and evolve a strategy for Ubiety’s technology offerings, and own the execution of various engineering work streams towards delivering a cohesive technology offering.
Partner with stakeholders and contributors (including business development, marketing, GTM, developers, project/program managers, data science, and product design) to design and own technology products, engineering roadmaps, and goals.
Implement effective team topologies and organizational best practices to ensure excellent operational efficiency of the engineering team. Set goals, delegate tasks, and ensure that the team is working efficiently to achieve them.
Create and implement Objectives and Key Results and/or Key Metrics for the technology stack and for the engineering organization. Maintain individual and organizational accountability against those metrics.
Draft documents to describe plans, goals, and solutions including annual and quarterly plans, feature requirements, resourcing tasks, and more.
Identify and elevate technology and engineering opportunities while identifying and mitigating major risks.
Work closely with product leaders and design counterparts to identify and document business requirements, measuring and sharing progress against goals, and championing adoption with customers and partners.
Analyze data, develop actionable insights, and be a resident expert in engineering growth and landscape.
Advocate for the appropriate resourcing to maintain sustainable workload for product, design, and engineering. Create and update hiring plans based on an ever-changing partnership landscape.
Collaborate with business leadership to develop and maintain technology educational and marketing materials, supporting GTM strategies, press releases, patent opportunities, and more.
