The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting applications for a Special Events Manager in the Communications and Marketing Department.

T he Special Events Manager operates the special events program for the downtown district, as well as its website and social media accounts. This employee is a one-stop-shop for event organizers, processing applications, reserving public spaces, and coordinating City services for events. They also plan and execute City-sponsored events and internal events when needed. In addition to events, this role will manage and maintain downtownjctn.org and its related social media accounts. This position is responsible for the special event application process, reservations of King Commons and Founders Park, and coordinating between applicants and City departments. It requires a high level of organization and customer service. The Special Events Manager is tasked with development of a strategic plan for events with ongoing evaluation of and improvement of processes and special attention paid to budget, ROI and economic impact. This employee is also responsible for executing and marketing City events including but not limited to ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, concerts, special ceremonies and community events. He or she will be responsible for the special event policy, making amendments as needed; will maintain supplies and tools related to event set-up and planning; and may oversee staff and/or volunteers. The Special Events Manager will work closely with community partners as they plan events and will serve as the City's liaison to the Farmer's Market.

This position will likely require work on nights and weekends; flexibility in schedule is key.

Work is performed under the direction of the Main Street Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with outstanding customer service skills. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills along with a keen understanding of marketing principals. Logistics and project management are key functions. Ability to work effectively with staff, media, department heads, elected officials and the general public using tact and diplomacy.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in communications, public or community relations work; marketing or related field with a minimum of 3 years' experience in event and marketing management. Pre-employment physical, and background check required.
