Overview:
The Enterprise Chief Financial Officer will perform advanced level work, administrative, professional, and supervisory accounting functions and assumes responsibility for the gathering, dispensing, and reporting of accurate financial information to unit managers and management.
The position oversees the financial operations of the Ute Tribal business units in conjunction with the CEO to ensure profitability and growth while decreasing losses. Provide direction and training to Water Settlement Accounting Services/Ute Tribal Enterprises members ensuring quality financial support to business unit managers and operations. He/she develops financial reports and prepares and reviews budgets as often as needed to maintain a current financial picture of each business unit. Ensures Water Settlement Department budgets meet 504 funding requirements and budget authorizations.
This position requires working in the office as well as occasionally in the field. Willingness to work within the environment associated with the position’s location and purpose.
The incumbent must also deal with members of the public and staff in a courteous and respectful manner. This includes receiving complaints as well as documenting and preparing reports on any such complaints and responding in a courteous and respectful manner.
Employee works under the supervision of the UTE ENTERPRISE CEO.
Responsibilities:
Give direction to and coordinate all accounting functions within each UTE business unit.
Responsibilities include strategic financial planning, budgets, strategic planning, payroll, project accounting, data control, bank reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general satisfying audit requirements and completing required governmental reports.
Performs functions that satisfy GAAP internal controls.
Responsible for preparing budgets, cost reports, year-end audits, and year-end work papers.
Prepare monthly closing entries for each business unit.
Supervise bank reconciliations and clearing accounts.
Perform all miscellaneous duties as may be required.
Assist business managers in evaluating their financial procedures.
Ensure financial goals and objectives are being monitored and achieved.
Provide course correction if deficiencies are found.
Review and/or prepare business plans for all business units.
Must be able to work with the public, Tribal Members, Tribal Council, and various entities.
Communicates with Supervisors, Peers, and Subordinates– Providing information to supervisors, subordinates, and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have an excellent command of the English language both written and oral.
Knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Great Plains, Power Point, Outlook).
Must have extensive knowledge in accounting, marketing, and sales with a vision to develop new businesses.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate effectively at a level required for successful job performance.
Ability to deal with stressful situations.
Ability to understand, interpret, analyze, and communicate financial data.
Ability to solve problems as well as plan, evaluate, and make accurate reports and recommendations.
Strict confidentiality is required.
Must enjoy and embrace working in a diverse and challenging environment.
Must be accurate in his/her work and give a great deal of attention to detail.
Must have the ability to see the “big picture.”
Requirements:
Master's Degree in Accounting or related field.
Must have CPA certification and credentials.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must possess a valid Utah State Driver License and
qualify
for a Ute Tribe Driver License; driving history must meet insurance carrier requirements.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and take a random drug test when required.
Must successfully complete a three (3) month’s probationary period during which the incumbent will be evaluated for satisfactory performance of typical duties listed.
Must pass a Criminal Background Check.
Position is permanent full-time. Minimum working hours of 40 hours per week with the understanding that the employee must be willing to occasionally work long and irregular hours. Employee must be dependable, reliable, responsible, and fulfill employment obligations. This is an enterprise-funded position.
