The ideal candidate will report to the Office of the Chief Counsel / Mission Support Division and will provide legal advice on agency policies, procedures, proposed regulations, and proposed legislation.Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?In this position, you will serve as co-counsel or assist Assistant United States Attorneys in matters before the United States courts. Typical assignments include:Serving as co-counsel or assisting Assistant United States Attorneys in matters before the United States courts.Performing litigation, including taking and defending depositions, producing and requesting written discovery.Providing guidance and making recommendations on settlements of FTCA claims and litigation.Advising agency managers on occupational safety and health matters.Reviewing and providing legal advice on agency policies, procedures, proposed regulations, and proposed legislation.What else do I need to know?At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management.

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. The qualifications listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.All applicants must possess the following:1) A J.D. or LL.B. degree from an ABA accredited law school; and2) An active membership, in good standing, of the bar of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.Grade GS-14 : To qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, you must possess at least three years of full-time professional legal experience gained after being admitted to the bar, including at least two years of specialized experience that is directly related to the position being filled; and at least one of the two years of specialized experience must be at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to that of an attorney at the GS-13 level.Conducting legal research and drafting legal motions, pleadings, and briefs, ANDPreparing discovery requests and responding to discovery requests; ANDPreparing evidence in preparation for trial and dispositive motions; ANDAdvising on occupational safety and health, able to review the work of less experienced, lower-grade attorneys.Grade GS-15:
