This is a live-in position, requiring the employee to live full-time in the provided apartment with a three-year contract.

Off-campus apartment accommodation is provided, in accordance with the Apartment Use Agreement.

A basic meal plan is provided to support interaction, involvement, and community building with students, staff, and faculty in a dining hall setting during the academic year.

This is a contract appointment with a term of three years unless terminated earlier.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services and business and financial analysis for these areas.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of an Assistant Director of Residential Education (ADRE), the University Town Center (UTC) Residential Manager serves as a member of the student life team. The UTC Residential Manager provides a variety of direct support services to residential students and assists with the management of the residential education program.

The UTC Residential Manager is responsible for community building in an assigned residential area; educational, multicultural, developmental programming and curriculum implementation; advising, conflict mediation, policy enforcement and jurisprudence; on-site crisis and emergency response coordination; student staff recruitment, selection, supervision, training and evaluation; housing and facilities coordination; budget management; safety and security; advising student groups; and special projects.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary:

$66,900 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES

35% - Residential Curriculum Administration and Community Building

Facilitates the development of community, civility and responsibility among residents, and the development of an environment conducive to their academic, intellectual, cultural and social development.

In conjunction with other ARCH staff, develops and implements a comprehensive residential education program.

Supervises and advises area and unit wide programming.

Sets a standard of communal and individual behavior within the residential community.

Liaises with the property management to ensure maintenance of the building.

Provides office and front desk presence to make sure office remains open and available for residents, staff, and maintenance workers.

30% - Student Staff Supervision, Development and Advising

Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student residential staff.

Plans, implements, and participates in a comprehensive training and education program for student staff team.

15% - Crisis, Disaster and Emergency Response Coordination

Participates in on-call rotation throughout the calendar year.

Provides backup and assistance to the Residential Community Safety Program (RCSP) staff.

10% - Student Conduct

Serves as a conduct officer, directly responsible for assigned conduct caseload.

Enforces residential and university policies.

10% - Administrative and Other Duties as Assigned

Attends all regularly scheduled professional staff meetings.

Participates on department and/or campus wide committees and activities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and/or training.

Direct experience in housing and residence life administration or student affairs.

Strong written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively within a diverse and multicultural setting.

Excellent organizational skills.

Proficiency with a computer and computer applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional affiliation with professional organizations.

Experience with program presentation, facilitation, and group leadership development.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

This is a live-in position which requires the employee to live in the provided apartment full time in a Three-Year Contract position.
