Proper Hospitality is seeking an experienced Director of People & Culture to join the team at Shelborne Miami Beach by Proper, a renowned hotel re-opening and debuting in our portfolio in early 2025.

Our property will introduce four vibrant new food & beverage destinations to the neighborhood, each suited for warm weather dining, with an all-day signature restaurant, a lobby bar-lounge, and curated cafe. Resort amenities will include a spacious pool and lush garden lounge, indoor-outdoor cabanas, sundeck terrace, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated access to a private beach club, and more than 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting & event space.

The Director of People and Culture is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for driving Shelborne's people and culture strategy. This position will focus on fostering a positive work environment, enhancing employee engagement and developing programs that support our team's growth and well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources, a passion for hospitality and a deep understanding of luxury service standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy

Develop and implement the people and culture strategy aligned with the hotel's overall vision and goals.

Collaborate with the executive team to create a cohesive and inclusive culture that reflects our values and enhances employee satisfaction.

Provide leadership and guidance to the HR team, ensuring effective execution of People & Culture programs and initiatives.

Employee Engagement & Development

Design and implement programs that enhance employee engagement, recognition and morale.

Develop and oversee training and development initiatives to support employees' professional growth and career advancement.

Conduct regular employee surveys and feedback sessions to gauge satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.

Performance Management

Establish and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance and provides constructive feedback.

Work with managers to set performance goals and provide coaching and support to achieve them.

Address performance issues promptly and fairly, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI)

Champion DEI initiatives and promote a culture of respect and inclusion.

Develop and implement policies and practices that foster diversity and equal opportunities for all employees.

Lead training and awareness programs to support an inclusive work environment.

Employee Relations & Compliance

Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers on HR-related matters, providing guidance and resolving issues.

Ensure compliance with all labor laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Manage employee relations cases, investigations, and disciplinary actions with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Compensation & Benefits

Oversee the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs.

Conduct regular benchmarking to ensure our offerings remain attractive and competitive in the market.

Provide guidance on compensation structures, incentive plans and benefit programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the luxury hospitality industry preferred.

Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.

Proven track record of developing and implementing successful people and culture strategies.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.

Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Passion for hospitality and commitment to delivering exceptional service.
