Scope of Eligibility:

Open to current NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs employees and to applicants who meet the requirements listed below. Selection will be made from among the best qualified.

Job Description:

Responsible to The Adjutant General on all matters pertaining to human resource management. Responsibilities include formulating policies, standard operating procedures, circular letters, administrative programs relating to state employees which include personnel actions, payroll compensation, time and attendance, classification compensation, health care benefit programs and Performance Assessment Review coordination. Ensures that subordinates are in compliance with Civil Service Commission rules, NJ statutes, department policies, union agreements, Department of Treasury directives and internal SOP's. Responsible for formulating training programs for all state employees to include programs for the admin/clerical, custodial, direct health care, technical, trades and professional units. Directs the activities of the following bureaus and sections: Personnel Management Bureau to include Employee Services, Recruitment and Payroll/Benefits and Training Section. Does related work as required.

Civil Service Commission Requirements

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's Degree.

Experience:

Seven (7) years of work involving the administration of Human Resources and/or Employee Relations functions such as recruitment, benefits, payroll and/or personnel management. Four (4) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis.

Applicants with a strong background and experience administering 24/7 facilities and operations encouraged.

License:

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in the State of New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
