About the Position

The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for all accounting activities. The Staff Accountant will support the month-end close, financial reporting, and the year-end financial audits. The ideal candidate is able to work independently, highly organized, a team player, has strong analytical skills, and technical knowledge of accounting systems and softwares such as Sage Intacct,Quickbooks, bill.com, and ADP.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting the monthly close process, including bank and investment reconciliations, journal entries, grants and contributions accounting, and accounts payable,Assist Payroll and Finance Support, includes payroll and payroll processing back upDeveloping and documenting business and accounting procedures, policies, workflows, and dashboardsOptimizing internal work processes to fully utilize capabilities of accounting software and minimize manual interventions and workaroundsAssist Director of Finance in preparing and disseminating timely and accurate financial information to management and other stakeholdersAssist Director of Finance in preparing the annual financial statements and footnotesAssist Director of Finance in coordinating and handling preparation, review, and filing of Federal forms 990, 5500, and 1099sEnsure financial information is prepared in accordance with the organization's policy, GAAP, and IRS regulationsManagement of or participation in special projectsOther duties as requiredBackground and experience expectations:

Bachelor's Degree OR minimum five (5) years of accounting experience, non-profit and/or public accounting experience preferred; Public education and charter school experience preferredMinimum one (1) year of payroll experience requiredExperience with Sage Intacct and/or Quickbooks preferredProficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPointStrong working knowledge of accounting principles and proceduresExperience with financial statement preparationAbility to communicate effectively with staff at all levelsStrong problem-solving, analytical, and planning skillsAbility to maintain a high level of confidentialityOther work requirements:
