Tempus is looking for a hardworking, ambitious Staff Accountant to support its growing operations in Chicago. This position will play a key role in the day-to-day revenue accounting functions and month-end close process, with training for career development to promotion to a Senior role. This is a hybrid-office role (3 days/ week in the office).

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Supporting day-to-day accounting functions (Revenue & Cash)

Performing month-end, quarterly, and annual financial statement close tasks and preparing financial statement analysis, including preparation of monthly journal entries, accruals and reserves, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.

Preparing supporting workpapers and analysis for financial and tax audits

Assisting the Accounting manager and revenue in identifying improvements to automate existing processes for increased efficiency

Working cross-functionally with other departments and building strong relationships with external vendors and customers

Composing ad-hoc reports and analysis to support management and leadership requests, as well as issue resolution of any customer questions

Maintaining appropriate internal controls and IPE for workpapers

Driving continuous improvement in Accounts Receivable, Revenue, and Treasury processes

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum of 1+ years of experience in an accounting role within industry or public accounting firm (Public accounting experience preferred)

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced MS Excel skills (Logical Formulas, Lookups, Pivot Tables)

Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), notably ASC 606

An eye for detail, and the ability to deliver accurate output in a timely manner

Strong organizational skills and comfortable working on multiple work streams

Agile-minded team‐player with strong communication skills and demonstrated experience of issue escalation and resolution.

A champion for data accuracy and quality for the Accounting team

Poised and works well under pressure and in a fast-paced changing environment

Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, or large ERP system experience a plus
