Dean, College of Behavioral and Social SciencesPosition Summary:California Baptist University (CBU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (CBSS). Founded in 1950, CBU is a private comprehensive institution located in Riverside, California. Accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), CBU offers more than 100 majors, more than 30 graduate degree programs, and eight doctoral degrees. As a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), CBU has a student population of over 11,000 students enrolled in on-campus and online degree programs.The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences is comprised of three (3) academic divisions: The Division of Family and Culture, The Division of Psychology, and The Division of Social Work. Each academic division comprises various leadership positions including an Associate Dean, Department Chairs, and Program Directors. The CBSS Dean will assume responsibility for the flourishing of all on-campus and online programs within each academic division.The mission of the CBSS is to cultivate a transformative and holistic educational environment where a biblical worldview and the study of behavioral and social sciences intersect. Guided by Christian values and principles, CBSS is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, personal growth, and spiritual development in students, faculty, and staff.Grounded in Christian values, CBSS strives to:Integrate Faith and Learning: Encourage the integration of spiritual principles with academic rigor.Promote Holistic Development: Support the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development of our students.Foster a Culture of Service: Inspire students to serve others with empathy and understanding.Advance Knowledge and Innovation: Encourage engagement in critical thinking and empirical contributions.Cultivate a Diverse and Equitable Community: Embrace diversity, equity, and access.Cultivate a Community of Peacemakers: Model and cultivate Christ-like behaviors amid conflict.Develop a global perspective: Recognize that diverse cultural experiences foster empathy.The CBSS is home to over 70 faculty and staff in support of over 2,000 students. The Dean of the College is the chief academic officer and the administrative head of the College, overseeing various degree programs and the Psychological Services of Riverside Clinic.The Dean holds academic rank and is charged with the administration, academic leadership, and supervision of the operation of the College. This leader must be a visionary with the ability to execute the strategic plan while managing the fiscal responsibilities associated with teaching and enrollment.The Dean reports directly to the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves on the Provost’s Council.Pay Range:The compensation for this appointment will range from $160,000 – $190,000 annually, reflecting what California Baptist University expects to pay. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications and experience.Qualifications:Required qualifications include:A demonstrated mature Christian faith aligned with CBU’s foundation as a Christian institution.Demonstrated experience integrating Christian faith with the theory and practice of behavioral and social sciences.An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution in a related field.Progressive administrative experience in higher education.Knowledge of and experience overseeing curriculum and programmatically accredited degree programs.An outstanding record of leadership and service with external partners in the community.An outstanding record of academic leadership activities.The successful candidate is expected to assume duties on or before July 1, 2025.State and Federal law permit California Baptist University to discriminate on the basis of religion in order to fulfill its purpose.
