Join Gilead and help create possible, together.Job DescriptionGilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Research Scientist/ Senior Associate Scientist to join our oncology research group. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary research team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into the clinic. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the discovery, research, and development of novel therapeutic agents to address the unmet medical needs of cancer patients. S/he will have opportunities for career growth by acquiring new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment.Key ResponsibilitiesIndependently plan, execute, analyze, troubleshoot, and interpret

in vitro

and

ex vivo

experiments that support research activities and project goals.Proactively evaluate new technologies and develop new assays to accelerate early-stage discovery activities and/or enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.Support multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally with colleagues in the oncology, chemistry, protein engineering, pathobiology, DMPK, biomarker, and clinical groups.Present research findings and recommendations to senior staff and contribute to preparation of research reports, manuscripts, INDs, and patent filings.Provide coaching and training to junior and/or less experienced colleagues in solving technical and scientific problems.EducationMaster's degree and 3 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.Required Experience and SkillsExtensive experience in cancer biology, target identification/validation in oncology or immuno-oncology.Experience working with small molecules.Extensive experience in general molecular and cell biology methods including human and mouse cell culture, basic flow cytometry.Experience with evaluation of gene expression and cell signaling (e.g. RT-qPCR, Nanostring, western blot, ELISA, MSD, immunofluorescence, reporter-based assays) and proliferation/survival using small molecules and biologics.Experience with methods to perturb gene function (e.g. RNAi, CRISPR, overexpression) and to deliver constructs (e.g. transfection, lentiviral transduction).Experience with quantitative cellular assays.Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to integrate into a high-paced multidisciplinary matrix environment with minimal supervision.Preferred ExperienceA strong record of achievements, contributions to drug discovery programs, and publications.The salary range for this position is: $124,015.00 - $160,490.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
