The University is currently undergoing a major organizational change – moving research administration out of the traditional, siloed structure and into shared Research Administration Service Units (RASUs). As we embark on this initiative, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead the Research Administration Service Unit for the School of Medicine (RASU SOM). RASU SOM is the largest RASU in the University and involves complex grants and contracts. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Research Administration, the Director of RASU SOM directly leads, manages, and supervises staff performing pre- and post-award support activities for the sponsored projects research portfolio for their assigned departments, divisions, centers, or school. The Director is responsible for team building and problem-solving with a new team in a new organizational structure. They must be highly focused and able to prioritize complex projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate for this position is an ethical, emotionally intelligent individual who can exercise high-level decision-making skills. They must be able to apply rules and regulations in a consistent but appropriately flexible way to meet the needs of faculty researchers and the University, while remaining in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. They should have extensive knowledge of research administration, including knowledge of the translational arc and funding mechanisms.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activityKnowledge of University policies and procedures relating to grant and contracts activityKnowledge of University processes, systems and offices related to and/or involved in grant and contract submission and managementHigh-level interpersonal skillsAbility to analyze data and formulate conclusionsAbility to influence and motivate direct reportsAbility to assign and prioritize duties across staffAbility to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organizationAbility to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneouslyAbility to create verbal and written reportsProficient use of computers; requires solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint)Required Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's Degree, 7 years effective work-related grants and contracts management, and 3 years of direct supervisory and management experience
