Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director, Grants is a key leadership role at Hire Heroes USA that leads our grant-seeking efforts and manages the grant application process. The Director of Grants will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing grant proposals, and cultivating relationships with grant-making organizations. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in grant writing and a deep commitment to improving the lives of veterans and military spouses through employment initiatives. Candidates will be expected to raise a minimum of $11 million annually through oversight of the grants program.
This is a full-time, remote position
Responsibilities
Grant Strategy and Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive grant-seeking strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and objectives
Identify potential funding sources, including foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other grant-making entities
Research and track grant opportunities, staying informed about relevant grant programs and deadlines
Grant Proposal Writing:
Write compelling grant proposals and applications that effectively communicate the organization’s mission, goals, and impact
Collaborate with program managers and other team members to gather data and information needed for grant proposals
Ensure that grant applications are submitted accurately and on time
Relationship Building:
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and potential grantors
Engage in regular communication with grant-making organizations to strengthen partnerships and explore collaboration opportunities
Represent the organization at relevant networking events and conferences
Grant Reporting And Compliance:
Prepare and submit timely grant reports to funders, highlighting program accomplishments and outcomes
Ensure that the organization complies with all grant-related regulations, expenditures, and reporting obligations
Organize and manage internal department collaboration related to grants: Finance, Program, Data, Development, etc.
Budgeting And Financial Management:
Collaborate with the finance team to develop grant budgets and financial projections for grant applications
Assist in financial reporting and grant-related budget management
Personnel Management:
Lead and oversee a team of 4 grant professionals to achieve organizational funding goals and objectives through effective management and guidance
Desired Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience
5-7 years experience in grant writing and grant management, preferably in the nonprofit sector, and at least 2 years leadership experience, leading and managing a team
Experience working collaboratively with senior level executives
Strong research skills and the ability to identify and pursue funding opportunities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of veteran and military spouse issues and a passion for supporting veterans and military spouses in their employment journey
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Proficiency in grant management software and tools
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
General office environment; temperature controlled
Routinely uses standard office equipment, e.g. copiers, phones, computers
Travel Required: Up to 15%
Sitting for extended periods of time
Estimated New Hire Salary: $93,500 – $104,500 annually
Hire Heroes USA may offer additional compensation to include annual bonuses, merit increases, cost of living, special or extra assignments outside scope of the role, cell phone stipend, internet stipend, relocation, awards, compensatory time off, overtime, and gaining knowledge and proficiency through certifications and licensing.
