This Rates & Regulatory Strategy Manager will focus primarily on the development, support, update and analysis of avoided cost rates for purchased power tariffs for Duke Energy's regulated utilities in North Carolina and South Carolina. This position will be responsible for developing the rates paid to eligible qualifying small power production and cogeneration facilities for the purchase of electric energy and capacity, in compliance with the federal Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978, state laws, and utility commission orders.Analytical and critical thinking skills, including data analytics, are essential. The ability to perform detailed analysis, recognize trends or irregularities in complex calculations, and explain variances by researching and identifying relevant, underlying causes of changes in results will be key. The role requires the ability to work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations. This position will work with various departments including the integrated resource planning and analytics department.The successful applicant should be able to lead major work streams and keep processes on track to successful completion (i.e. avoided cost filings, rider filings, etc). They should be able to provide guidance to others (both internal and external to the group), teach and develop other employees, and delegate work as appropriate. They will have a grasp on industry issues and emerging rules, and proactively address how these issues may affect regulatory processes, suggesting proper ratemaking treatment. Developing good working relationships with internal and external customer groups (including regulators) is important. Must be proficient in conflict management and will know how to listen attentively, as well as be able to communicate both orally and in written form proficiently. Must be able to present ideas and concepts clearly to broad groups. Capable of testifying.The Carolinas Rates & Regulatory group is within the North Carolina State President's organization and provides regulatory services for Duke Energy's regulated utilities in North Carolina and South Carolina.Responsibilities

Note: Primary job responsibilities focus on the development, support, update and analysis of avoided cost rates for purchased power tariffs for both Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC and Duke Energy Progress, LLC in the Carolinas (both North Carolina and South Carolina).Other activities may include:Rider filings and support (i.e. development of annual revenue requirements and rates)Rate case filings and supportRegulatory strategy analysis, reporting and supportLeading and resolvingParticipating on various strategic teams, as needed, to represent the Rates & Regulatory Strategy team.Research and Strategy Development - Identify potential regulatory issues/hurdles and propose solutions/strategies to overcome barriersData gathering and computationsRequired Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Business, or other related degreeIn addition to required degree, 8 years related work experienceDesired Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Business or other related disciplineAdvanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, PowerPoint)Previous experience working in the utility industryFamiliarity with ratemaking revenue requirement and rate design principlesBackground in finance, accounting, mathematics, data analysis or engineering preferred.Ability to grasp big picture, reach appropriate conclusions from detailed analysisAbility to communicate complex concepts clearly and conciselyAbility to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlinesAbility to work effectively under pressureAbility to deal with ambiguityAbility to reach compromise positions with othersAbility to develop strong rapport with regulatorsAdvanced degreeEmployees at this level can perform proficiently at the Lead Rates & Regulatory Strategy Analyst requirements and is demonstrating the ability to perform at the Rates & Regulatory Strategy Manager requirements.Working Conditions

M - FVirtual mobility classification- work will be performed from a remote location after the onboarding period. However, virtual employees should live within the Carolinas.Option to work hybrid schedule (mix of virtual & onsite days) if located in Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC.Travel Requirements
