DescriptionThis position provides strategic leadership for a team responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating career education programs including career coaching, career exploration and assessments, internships, employment searches, graduate and professional school advising, networking, prestigious global scholarships and fellowships, and others related to the personal and professional development of New College students.

Examples of DutiesThe team, under the leadership of the Executive Director, also promotes, supports, and coordinates metric capture and reporting for graduate career outcomes. Additionally, the CEO team is responsible for coordinating, capturing metrics and reporting support to faculty-driven internships and employer recruitment activities, as appropriate. In collaboration with the Provost and faculty, develop and implement courses and tutorials targeting student career success and collaborates with faculty to integrate skill-building internships and career education into the academic program.

Create, coordinate, and execute long-term vision, strategic plans, and drive short-term operational plans, and priorities for the CEO and career education curriculum for all academic programs across the college.

Respond to State University System reporting requirements utilizing timely, effective communications and processes. Support New College Admissions and Development efforts with outcomes and activities information that help tell a compelling story of the value of a New College education.

Develop and maintain outreach programs and employer relations, increasing the number and quality of employers, internship opportunities, graduate and professional programs, and global prestigious scholarships and fellowships opportunities for students.

Work in a collaborative, open and transparent manner with other units within the College.

As a “player/coach,” lead, support, and develop the Center’s staff and identify and develop resources and guidance in response to the professional development needs of the staff.

Continuously survey graduates, employers, and community members to evaluate impact and ROI.

Implement recruiting systems, policies, programs and events that connect employers, community members and alumni with the College’s students, faculty and other alumni.

Develop policies, guidelines and processes for responding to alumni career support needs.

Cultivate key collaborative partnerships with college faculty, division chairs and other departments, such as Foundation and alumni relations, in order to build trust, and provide consultation on best practices related to internships and career education. Develop and implement effective assessment and program evaluation methods and reports.

Engage in professional organizations and community activities.

Maintain best practices in communications, working with the College’s Communications and Marketing office to promote awareness and participation in events and programming opportunities.

Ensure accurate and complete records; capture contact, biographical, education, and career information with the use of surveys, projects, and directories.

Collaborate with the New College Foundation to identify corporate partnerships and development opportunities to support internship and employment initiatives and programs.

Serve as a skilled exemplar working directly with students and CEO professional and peer coaches as a career coach and mentor.

Oversee implementation, integration, training, and maintenance of various technology platforms that improve student access to career education and opportunities increasing student career competitiveness.

Manage and oversee departmental budget in conjunction with the Center’s fiscal liaison.

The Executive Director ensures confidentiality of student, faculty and staff records in accordance with federal, state, BOT laws and regulations.

Represent New College at campus and community events, and at local, state and national conferences and gatherings.

Make occasional presentations to the New College Board of Trustees, Foundation, Alumnae Association and other College groups.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.

Preferred QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a minimum of three years (five preferred) of experience in career services, or an equivalent amount of experience in a closely related area, such as talent recruiting, executive coaching, etc. The candidate should have two or more years successfully hiring, onboarding, developing, and leading teams, managing performance and productivity, and strategic planning with a strong background in analytics and data management. The candidate should be goal-driven and visionary, and should display an entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative spirit. The candidate should be comfortable managing change and ambiguity, and possess the ability to make thoughtful, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment. Effective communications skills are essential, as well as experience defining ROI and concrete measurements of success. The candidate should be able to describe past experience successfully collaborating and coordinating with peers within the organization, as well as success building external building partnerships. The candidate must demonstrate a high level of ethical standards.
