This position is located in the Division of Judges of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in Washington, DC. The primary function of the Division of Judges is to hear and initially decide unfair labor practice and other cases involving the National Labor Relations Act, as amended (29 USC Sec. 151). The incumbent serves as Associate Chief Administrative Law Judge to the Division's Chief and Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge.Duties

AL - 0935 - 2 , your typical work assignments may include:Docketing cases and managing the case docket within the jurisdiction of the Washington office, ruling on pre-trial motions, assigning cases to judges who will preside at hearings under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) and applicable case law and regulations.Supervising and monitoring the status of pending cases, communicating with other offices of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), government and private attorneys and the public about pending cases and applicable procedures and policies.Counseling with, and advising judges, upon their request, with respect to problems arising in proceedings before them.Performing other duties upon special assignment from the Chief Administrative Law Judge or the Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge, including the supervision of support staff and law clerks, not inconsistent with the duties of an ALJ under the APA.Salary

U.S. Citizenship Required.Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.This is not a remote position.Relocation expenses are not authorized.May be subject to a background investigation prior to appointment.This position is open to current NLRB Administrative Law Judges assigned to the NLRB Division of Judges in Washington, D.C.Must be able to physically work in the Washington, DC. Office of the Division of Judges at least 2 to 3 times per month.Subject to frequent travel throughout the US and its territories.Subject to financial disclosure requirements.This position is in the Excepted Service; however, if you are currently an NLRB ALJ in the Competitive Service, you will remain in the Competitive Service after selection.Salary range listed is base. The Ideal Candidate for the Associate Chief Administrative Law Judge position possesses an extraordinary degree of managerial discipline, diplomacy and empathy to preserve a smooth functioning operation.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for the Associate Chief Administrative Law Judge, AL-0935-02, position, an applicant must have at least ten (10) years total legal experience in at least one jurisdiction in which the applicant is admitted; and seven (7) years of relevant litigation or administrative law experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in or demonstrated ability to handle administrative duties associated with the position, including docketing cases, ruling on pre-trial motions, assigning cases to judges, and, in answer to inquiries, providing guidance and advice to judges, while efficiently handling a regular case load.Experience in or demonstrated ability to meet and enforce time targets for ALJ decisions, assisting with the hiring of judges and handling the employment and administrative issues of judges and support staff in the office assigned.Experience in or demonstrated ability to communicate and negotiate with respect to sensitive and complex adjudicatory situations and the ability to manage and provide leadership and counsel to judges and other professional and staff personnel, utilizing the utmost discretion and diplomacy.Experience in or demonstrated ability to dispose of applicable personnel, procedural and legal issues with sound judgment, superior analytical skills and dispatch.This experience must be fully supported and articulated in your resume to receive consideration.
