Job Purpose & Position Overview:

The Deputy Director will assist the Program Director with the overall management of the Ho-Chunk Renaissance Program, including coordination, integration, and implementation of resources and services necessary to meet program goals. Responsibilities include program management, grant administration, and managing program initiatives.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.Interact with the public, students, and tribal employees with tact and respect.Demonstrate effective communication, decision-making, leadership, critical thinking, and time management skills.Assist the Program Director with daily operations and assume full responsibility in their absence.Work with the Program Director to create and implement a strategic 5-year plan.Support and guide program staff and present to tribal council and other leadership entities.Supervise educational language programming at reservation facilities.Assist in performance management and ensure obligations and contracts are met.Provide leadership in annual operations planning, training, and budgeting.Implement and monitor program goals and objectives.Collaborate with the Instruction Coordinator for language training and workshops.Supervise the development of a structured Ho Chunk language curriculum.Research second language acquisition models and incorporate them into the program.Observe teaching staff and evaluate performance.Conduct training and meetings to discuss curriculum standards and analyze student data.Seek new educational tools for language development.Attend educational gatherings to promote the Ho-Chunk language.Assist in developing a strategic plan for the Ho-Chunk speaker pool.Handle accounting functions using Martus Tools, Intacct, and internal systems.Network with other tribal language programs for developmental contributions.Digitize learning materials for community and tribal members.Develop staff training in culture, oral history, and language.Work toward proficiency in the Ho-Chunk language using the IPA.Participate in Ho-Chunk language assessments.Supervise personnel within the program.Make employment and termination decisions per tribal policies.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications/Skills:

Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.Effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Active learner of the Ho-Chunk language.Proficient in English and able to write professionally.Willing to submit to a background check.Ability to work with program staff and teachers on language development.Knowledge of tribal culture or a desire to learn.Strong leadership and teamwork skills.Ability to work independently.Willingness to work with children.Reliable transportation and insurance.Computer literacy and proficiency in the Ho-Chunk writing system is a plus.Education Preference:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or minimum of an associate degree in a related field, with experience and willingness to work toward a bachelor’s degree.Supervisory Responsibilities:

Ability to supervise departmental employees.Training Requirements:

Willingness to pursue professional certification and/or training.Physical Requirements:

Normal to light office work, ability to lift up to 10 lbs.Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.Mental Requirements:

Reading, writing, calculating, and reasoning skills.Language Requirements:
