Recycling & Waste Reduction Lead

Under the general supervision of the Recycling & Waste Reduction Coordinator, incumbent will serve as a working lead of the Recycling and Waste Reduction Program. The lead may assume responsibility for the crew in the absence of a supervisor. This activity involves performing the work of the specialized field, assigning and monitoring work orders, ensuring completion and recording of work orders, explaining tasks to co-workers, assisting with training of co-workers, maintaining time and material records, and assisting with performance evaluations, as requested. The Lead BMW receives general direction from their supervisor and provides leadership a minimum of 30% of the time. The Lead will be working closely with the Recycling Sorters and Recycling Specialist to ensure the daily tasks/projects are completed.

Department Description

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 400 professional staff and acts as steward for over $90 million in operating funds to achieve its goals in operating and maintaining the UCSF campus environment. Located in the Campus Life Services organization, FS is organized into 5 distinct units: (1) Mission Bay/East Campus Operations, (2) Parnassus/West Campus Operations, (3) Infrastructure & Utilities Services, (4) Customer Service & Technology, and (5) Strategic Organization Development.

Required Qualifications

Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations; two years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Senior Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven skillfulness in leadership and problem solving abilities.

Proficient in basic computer skills and Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).

Ability to function effectively in a team environment.

Can work in inclement weather conditions when present.

Demonstrates a professional attitude in the work environment.

Valid CA Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

University and/or Medical Center environment experience.

2 years’ experience in the Recycling field.

Ability to diagnose large pieces of equipment (compactors, tippers, electrical carts, etc).

License/Certification

Valid CA Driver’s License.
