Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for community engagement and nonprofit excellence? The United Way of Forsyth County is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to serve as the chief professional officer, accountable to the President and Board of Directors.

This compelling opportunity involves designing and implementing a comprehensive campaign plan to achieve our fundraising goal that supports 50 local organizations and initiatives that transform lives. As our new ED, you would position United Way as a key advocate for human services, promote the organization’s mission, and enhance our visibility through strategic community engagements. As the primary advisor to the Board, you would oversee financial management, guide policy execution, and support board development. Additionally, you would lead marketing and public relations efforts, ensuring a cohesive and positive public image across all media channels.

Overview of Responsibilities

Fundraising Campaigns:

Design, implement, and systematically assess the execution of a comprehensive campaign plan designed to achieve our $1,700,000 fundraising goal. These funds support nearly 50 local organizations, programs, and initiatives designed to change lives.

Community Engagement:

Position United Way as an advocate for improved human services through participation in committees, taskforces, and associations that address significant social issues at the county, state, and national level. Promote a positive image of the organization to develop community support for our mission and enhance United Way’s visibility and engagement throughout the community.

Executive Leadership/Board of Directors:

Execute the strategic policies and directives of the Board of Directors by guiding the establishment and upkeep of essential organizational documents. Provide comprehensive insights on trends in the nonprofit sector, serving as the primary advisor to board committees. Oversee financial management and reporting, facilitate the orientation and development of new board members, and ensure regular self-assessments align with United Way Worldwide standards. Support the board in defining and achieving organizational goals and ensure meticulous electronic documentation and archiving of board and committee activities.

Admin, Finance & HR:

Provide executive leadership and direction for all business activities (HR, Finance, Accounting, Operations) to drive campaign growth, while ensuring compliance with United Way Worldwide standards and membership requirements. Ensure budgets are established and adhered to, distributions are made per board direction, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are followed.

Marketing & Public Relations:

Execute marketing and public relations strategies that communicate a positive image across multiple media channels. The annual marketing plan will promote all programs and events while preserving our brand and character across all print and digital platforms. A successful plan will include website modernization, relevant social media content, newsletters, and news articles. A cohesive and effective public presence will be achieved through refreshing content and using analytics/metrics to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that will help guide marketing strategies.

Skills Required for Success

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in human services or marketing field.

Experience in fundraising, communications, public relations, nonprofits, and the business community are desirable.

Minimum of five (5) years' fundraising or sales experience preferred.

Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities; ability to relate well with people from diverse groups.

Ability to collaborate effectively with volunteers and fellow staff.

Must have excellent presentation skills and ability to connect with the audience.

Excellent organizational ability, enthusiastic, creative, and takes initiative.
