Vice President of Operations

Mission:

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Purpose:

The Vice President of Operations is a pivotal leadership role dedicated to advancing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) while overseeing the Business Services, Product Program (including Girl Scout Cookies!), and Retail & Customer Care departments. This role combines strategic foresight with hands-on management to ensure that systems, processes, and teams are finely tuned to deliver exceptional service to our members and volunteers. Emphasizing servant leadership, the VP will drive impactful collaboration across departments, advancing both the council’s mission and business objectives. This role is crucial in shaping the organization's success and fostering a positive, lasting impact on the communities we serve.

A Day in the Life… (Essential Functions):

Leadership and Strategy:

Direct the daily operations of the Business Services, Product Program, and Retail & Customer Care departments.

Develop and implement strategic plans for each department, aligning them with organizational goals.

Provide guidance on process improvement, resource allocation, and project management to department heads.

Cultivate a culture of servant leadership and champion DEI principles across all teams.

Operational Management:

Oversee the management of technology, inventory, and budget within the council.

Ensure optimal use of applications, devices, and services, including Salesforce and Looker.

Manage planning, project execution, forecasting, and monitoring for the Girl Scout Cookie and Fall Product Programs.

Explore and support innovative retail opportunities to enhance member satisfaction and revenue.

Team Leadership:

Set clear goals, assignments, and expectations for department heads and staff.

Mentor, coach, and evaluate employee performance, offering ongoing feedback and development opportunities.

Engage in hiring, onboarding, and professional development of team members.

Customer and Member Service:

Ensure high levels of customer service and member satisfaction across all departments.

Address and resolve customer and volunteer complaints and escalated issues.

Develop strategies to enhance customer and member experiences, including improvements to retail and contact center processes.

Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with other operational and organizational functions to support mission objectives.

Work with the Marketing and Communications team on communication and promotional strategies.

Coordinate with GSUSA and other councils on system updates, support tickets, and best practices.

Financial Oversight:

Develop and manage department budgets in collaboration with the COO.

Provide strategic financial insights to support key organizational decisions.

Forecast revenue targets and devise strategies to achieve or exceed financial goals.

The Fine Print… (Qualifications):

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven track record of managing and leading diverse teams across multiple departments.

Strong business acumen with excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.

Ability to adapt to changes in circumstances, direction, and strategy.

Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office products. Preference given to candidates with experience in Excel.

Experience with Salesforce and other relevant technology systems preferred.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Valid Driver’s License.

Your Surroundings:

Generally, climate-controlled office conditions.

Limited travel (up to 20%) within the council as well as out of state to relevant conferences.

Some duties may require outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions, notably during the Girl Scout Cookie Program season in winter and early spring.

Based out of our Des Moines office.
