The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) seeks a dynamic partner to serve as an Associate Vice President for Research for Science & Policy (AVPRSP) at 1.0 FTE. The VPR reports to the President of the University of Utah (UofU). This inaugural position collaborates with three other Associate Vice Presidents for Research (AVPR) teams under the VPR. It has the potential of carrying an academic appointment, coordinated with the recruiting home college & department.The position will play a pivotal role in formulating and integrating plans to expand existing areas of UofU research strengths by partnering with key stakeholders in state, federal, or industry sectors.Responsibilities:Work with the VPR, the AVPRs, and staff on realizing the vision and mission of the VPR’s public engagement and research impact goals.Represent the VPR office across the entire campus and at local and national meetings.Develop and implement strategic plans for growing the UofU research portfolio efficiently and effectively.Identify robust interdisciplinary research areas that intersect with strategic funding opportunities.Develop sustainability plans to grow the area of strength and position the UofU as a leading research epicenter.Engage with faculty to enhance research infrastructure and grow interdisciplinary pursuits with external partners.Lead established Institutes and VPR supported HUBs, poised to expand their impact and competitiveness for federally sponsored center grants.Liaise between the VPR and non-profit UofU research affiliated organizations with an emphasis on economic engagement.Oversee a corporate development and engagement specialist to drive industry partnerships.Contribute to strategic planning, problem solving, and organizational structure maintenance.Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of federal, state, foundation, and industry funding agencies. Expertise in starting and/or leading large, collaborative research organizations is required. Strong organizational and communication skills, along with demonstrated success in grant writing, are essential. A PhD, MD, or other terminal degree is preferred, or equivalent years of experience.Preferences:Special Instructions Summary:Additional Information:
