We strive to continuously improve the campus in partnership with all members of the campus community.Position Summary:Facilities Services supports the physical campus of the University of California, Berkeley. The Facilities Safety Specialist is responsible for leading the FS organization in developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.Application Review Date:The First Review Date for this job is: 08/19/2024.Responsibilities:Perform complex technical work in industrial hygiene, safety engineering, controlled substances, laser safety, environmental protection, and hazardous materials.Create, implement, and manage safety programs related to maintenance and operations.Develop procedures to solve substantive, complex problems.Act as liaison and departmental expert for interactions with other campus and regulatory entities.Maintain knowledge of existing and proposed changes of all regulations.Lead outreach and communication to campus and within FS operational groups.Supervise student assistants for the safety program.Provide expert counsel by evaluating, interpreting and applying laws, regulations, codes and standards.Ensure training requirements are known and met for all FS staff.Create and maintain safety and training manuals and logs.Manage the safety shoe program and procurement of safety PPE.Inspect, investigate incidents and complaints, and recommend corrective safety measures.Required Qualifications:Advanced knowledge of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) fields.Skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations.Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.Advanced analytical and organizational skills.Experience in development, management and implementation of safety programs.Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Preferred Qualifications:CSP, ASP, OHST, CUSA, CIH Professional.Salary & Benefits:This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.
