Carnegie Mellon University's Office of the Vice President of Research is searching for a

Federal Relations Assistant/Office Manager

to join their team in the Washington, DC area. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support to the Federal Relations Director and ensuring smooth and consistent day-to-day operations of the office.While the position requires administrative/office management duties, it affords the opportunity for personal growth. The position will entail daily interaction with federal offices and campus to support the Director in developing and implementing strategies and processes that support excellent service for, and relations with, both the federal government and university faculty and staff.Your core responsibilities will include:Highly dynamic schedule and information managementHighly professional internal and external customer serviceEssential functions of the day-to-day operation of the Washington DC Office of Government Relations:

Maintaining basic office organization including supplies and physical space; interfacing with campus tech support as needed to optimally address equipment and network issues as they arise; responding to basic information requests and handling a variety of tasks associated with activities of the Director in support of faculty and students, such as updating and providing logistics information and support, gathering information on meeting and event venues or locations, preparing written materials, handling expense reimbursements, making travel arrangements, and other tasks.

Supporting the Director in arranging Congressional briefings by faculty, both in person and virtual.Working with the Director to develop, organize and maintain a calendar and database of Federal Relations activities and history, contacts and information.Working with the Director to prepare various types of written documents.Duties may also include capturing information regarding legislative/regulatory initiatives that may impact the university, including attending and summarizing information from meetings, briefings, hearings, agency announcements, and news.Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within OVPR. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.You should demonstrate:Proficiency in using word processing and database products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs.Professional interpersonal, office management, and time management skills.Excellent writing and editing skills.Basic understanding of the Capitol Hill environment and the legislative process.High motivation, curiosity, interest in higher education and science policy.Ability to be adaptive and creative under pressure.Willingness to be flexible to handle frequent periods of intense activity.Qualifications:Undergraduate degree.5-8 years of proven experience.Requirements:Successful background check.Location:
