Role Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist - Life Underwriting is responsible for evaluating and enhancing the quality of underwriting decisions and processes within NLG's underwriting department. This role involves conducting thorough audits of underwriting files ensuring compliance with NLG's philosophy, guidelines, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. The specialist will identify trends, deviations, and areas of improvement, providing detailed feedback and recommendations to underwriters and management maintaining the integrity and consistency of the underwriting process and driving continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform regular audits of the life underwriting cases to assess the accuracy and compliance with NLG's philosophy, guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
  • Review underwriter decisions, documentation, and risk assessments to ensure adherence to established guidelines
  • Identify trends, discrepancies, and deviations from underwriting guidelines and provide constructive feedback
  • Work closely with leadership providing guidance and clarification on best practices
  • Assist in developing action plans to correct identified issues and monitor the implementation of recommended changes
  • Collaborate with training team to develop educational materials and sessions based on audit findings, aimed at improving underwriting quality and consistency
  • Participate in initiatives to enhance underwriting processes, reduce error rates, and improve overall quality
  • Provide insights and recommendations for process improvements based on audit findings and industry best practices
  • Service as a subject matter expert in underwriting
  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and development within the team and foster an environment that supports knowledge sharing and professional growth
  • This position is preferred onsite/hybrid with the expectation that you are in the office three days per week with current campus days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7 years of life underwriting experience; preferred background would include designations such as FALU, FLMI, or other course work within ALU, LOMA or similar industry organizations
  • Experience in signing-off on large cases exceeding five million in face amount
  • Previous experience with accelerated and rules engine underwriting
  • Must be able to communicate in an effective manner, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated skill in developing risk management and underwriting programs

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in underwriting quality assurance

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
