Job Summary

The Development Director is the foundation of a dynamic team of passionate individuals, focusing on successfully coordinating the annual fund, assisting with fundraising campaigns, and donor acquisition, stewardship, and retention initiatives. This position is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the donor database to measure and achieve development goals. The ideal candidate will be part of a team that thinks strategically about the larger efforts of the department and will be responsible for performing highly detailed work daily.

Responsibilities

Database Management

Ensure that all donations, donor information, and interactions with donors are recorded in the Little Green Light database accurately to protect the integrity of the data.

Administer accurate gift processing standards, including timely and accurate gift entry and acknowledgement generation and mailing, according to development policies and procedures.

Create and distribute timely giving reports, campaign reports, various donor and board reports, and other materials as requested.

Create documents for donor visits.

Manage follow-up processes.

Assess giving trends to identify prospective donors, add supporters, and increase giving.

Assist in the creation and implementation of an annual strategy for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors through mailings, social media, events, targeted appeals, email, and other techniques that can attract a diverse range of donors.

Annual Fund & Capital Campaign

Coordinate and assist with drafting annual appeal materials and manage mailings and digital outreach plan.

Create professional solicitation letters, liaise with outside vendors and printers, coordinate mailing lists, and ensure mailings are printed and distributed in a timely manner.

Coordinate and assist with all tasks related to the capital campaign, as directed by the supervisor.

Donor Management

Create and implement a donor recognition program.

Assess and respond to internal and external inquiries about supporting Midcoast Youth Center.

Maintain relationships and support retention of donors through excellent customer service, relationship-building, and follow-up.

Work with colleagues to determine and execute a fundraising plan that further engages and educates current donors and donor prospects.

Support the overall strategic efforts of the development functions.

Grants

Assist Executive Director, Development Coordinator, and Development consultants for Foundation identification, research, and outreach. Assist with tracking of grant applications, timelines, responses, and required follow-up reporting.

Planning & Events

Participate in key MYC events that take place outside of normal business hours, including but not limited to: Stuff the Bus, Set for Success, Chili Chowder Fest, Spirit of Christmas Fair.

Be the key contact to plan and execute these special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization, alongside the Development Committee and senior MYC staff team members.

Work with the Development team to create and execute an annual fundraising, event, and social media calendar.

Manage development and grant calendars.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; comfortable facilitating meetings and speaking to groups when needed.

Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles and practices to participate in the planning and implementation of an effective, well-rounded development function.

Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.

Solid project management skills, including the ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner.

Develop strong relationships and management skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to find humor and promote an atmosphere of collegiality and teamwork.

Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.

Strong work ethic with a curiosity and internal drive to advance our mission and exceed goals.

Desire and willingness to gain knowledge and develop skills.

Computer Skills

Database experience required, Little Green Light or other donor management systems preferred.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Adobe Creative Cloud and other basic design abilities preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Maine Driver’s License.

Ability to obtain additional training/certifications as needed.
